Welding Gloves

May 5, 2009 by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Here’s another reason my welding gloves are cool – they don’t burst into a fireball and burn down the house when you accidentally leave them on top of a lit gas burner and go off to play Spider Solitaire on the computer.

Thankfully Big Boy noticed all the smoke in the kitchen and went to investigate, then used his powerful brass musician lungs to blow the fire out.  The leather gloves were actually burning away quite gently – I guess they wouldn’t work for welding if they burst into flames whenever a spark landed on them. Nevertheless, I’m feeling incredibly grateful right now that the house is still standing.

That’s a good enough sales pitch for me. Off to find some.

HHHmmm go welding gloves!! I actually used my NEW WELDING gloves tonight and found them really useful and easier to use than those padded mitts….Leigh loves them for some reason, thinks they are the coolest thing ever!

Thanks Barb. It was a little scary and I did stop for a moment to give thanks that what might have happened, didn’t.

Just a late arrival saying thanks for the info about welder’s gloves and where to get them–I was able to order a pair from Gasweld online for under $10 and free shipping! Hopefully this means an end to the never-ending series of burn slashes across my forearms from hot oven racks! I’m a bit tired of looking like a failed suicide….

Thanks for letting me know! I know exactly what you mean too about the burnt forearms, and they’re also great for preventing steam burns when you’re checking a boiling pot. :)

      Cheers, Celia

Came across your blog – very fun to read :)

These gloves are sometimes called grilling gloves in the US – I bought a pair to use with my tandoor oven outdoors. They get pretty warm but keep me from burning off the hair of my forearms!

David Lebovitz wrote one of the best articles I've read on recipe attribution, and if you're a blogger who posts recipes, it's well worth a look.

In a nutshell, the ingredients of a recipe are not subject to copyright, but the text is, so always make sure you re-write the methodology in your own words, with any changes and modifications you've made. And always make sure to acknowledge the original source!
