Cherries

December 13, 2009 by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

. . . . .

Cherries at Christmas are an Australian tradition, and Pete found these gorgeous red Rons and white cherries at the markets.

What seasonal produce are you enjoying at this time of year?

Love cherries – made a gorgeous chocolate and cherry tart last night. The mangos I have bought this year haven’t been great though – will have to try again before Christmas.

Love the chocolate and cherry combination! We haven’t bought mangoes this year, but there have been heaps at the markets…

Ohhhh … I am missing cherries at Christmas. They are definitely Christmas for me. Enjoy. They look divine. And I would have to agree, chocolate and cherries are best friends.

Everywhere I turn, I seem to bump into quinces and pears…whether its in Copenhagen or The Hague! And apples too….and Cherries (in Copenhagen) for that matter.

Cherries for me too! I love to eat a bowl of cold, juicy cherries late at night…sitting on the sofa watching TV.
Lychees, mangoes, apricots (surprisingly good at the moment), nectarines (brought by my sister from a farm out near Bathurst), ice cold watermelon on a hot day…….I love summer fruit.

Sad to say it is clementines, lychees and frozen mangoes and frozen raspberries for us. The frozen mangoes are quite acceptable as I have never had a good fresh mango in Paris – but then – being from QLd – I have very high standards!

Brussels sprouts! I know this makes me weird, but I adore a good bsprout!

Ozoz, interesting that you’re seeing cherries in winter! I always thought they were a summer fruit!

SG, the apricots have indeed been most fine – Pete has been making large batches of apricot jam from them…

Sigh…Anna, you Queenslanders are all the same! If there’s any state where you’re spoilt for produce, it’s Qld… :)

SK, I LOVE Brussels sprouts! Stir fried in oyster sauce is my personal preference..

    Cheers, Celia
