The circus moves on and so do I,
time flies like the birds,
and slides with the snails
but time never stops as life goes on.
Performances start and finish,
they flash by like lightning
and they drift on like the clouds
but time never stops as life goes on.
As the day comes to a close,
the sun disappears and the moon brings light.
Dreams can be happy and dreams can be sad
but time never stops as life goes on.

A poem by Big Boy,
penned when he was 10 years old.
(Photo taken especially for us by our beloved
friend Dan of Tutus and Ladybeetles)
Your son had/ has a very mature perspective.
And a talent for poetic expression.
Great photo- you did a great job, putting them together.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Heidi. He didn’t write a lot of poems, but this one we loved enough to save. I actually asked Dan to take a photo for me, and she found this little creature in her backyard. As always, I’m astounded by the beauty in the minutiae.
And there was me thinking it was a poem by you. Your philosophy has permeated through the family – good for you and him.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s the other way around, Choclette. I think in some ways our sons’ views on the world have changed our perspective more than we’ve influenced them! :)
Beautiful poem Celia. Your son sounds like he sees things most of us get too darn busy to appreciate. I love that….. ‘time never stops as life goes on……’
Thanks Anna! He’s a calming influence on all of us! :)
My goodness what a mature set of observations. I never would have guessed that was penned by a 10 year old. What a treasure to keep for you and for him.
Very deep for a little one. He must have an old soul.
Sarah, Chef, thank you. I put the poem up here in part so we didn’t lose it!
Beautiful poem…I see talent runs in the family and judging by the photo it extends to your friends as well.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more poems in the future!
Cindy, thank you! My friend Dan(ielle) takes beautiful photos – I love how she sees things the rest of us miss. She rang me and said, “I’ve just found the cutest snail for you…he’s absolutely tiny..”.
Big Boy has only ever written a couple of poems, but he does so love to write!
my heart sunk when i read the title, i always assume the worst. so relieved to see nothing’s wrong!
such wonderful boys you have, celia. incredible poem for a 10 year old! whenever you talk about your kids it makes me wish you’d share more of your parenting philosophy, since it obviously produces such desirable results!
Dana love, I’m sorry to do that to you! We’ve been blessed by God to have boys who love us and want to spend time with us – that makes them incredibly easy to parent! :)
I echo what heidiannie said…
That’s a stunning poem by anyone at all, let alone a ten year old boy. I’d venture to say that it’s one of the more striking poems I’ve read for a long time, I’ve read it a few times now and the key refrain of “but time never stops as life goes on” really connects, on an emotional level.
Kavey, wow, thank you for that! I’ll pass it on to Big Boy, he’ll be chuffed. :)
10 years old? I think he needs a poetry agent. He’s going to be famous! ;) beautiful photograph too! Don’t tell me the photographer is 10 too! Just kidding! :P
Hehe…no, Dan’s not ten, but she is very talented!
I have to admit I had the same feeling as dana when I saw the title of the post coming up on Google Reader. What a total surprise to find such a beautiful poem waiting for me. Thank you Celia and Big Boy for sharing.
Ahh Gill, I’m sorry to scare you as well! But very touched that you and Dana were so concerned! :)
Glad you liked the poem! :)
Celia I would be very proud of Big Boy. I think you can smile contentedly and think…”yep… Thats my boy”.
And also gorgeous friend who takes beautiful, beautiful photos for you. (I can say that even though snails make me squeal like a big girl.)
A gorgeous poem by a 10 year old!! He uses a lot of special words,..he enriched himself a lot!!!
Well done!
PS, Dear Celia: thanks for all of your kind words & explanation about the GF buns etc,…much appreciated!
Sophie, thank you! :)
Brydie, thank you, very proud of both our boys! And isn’t it just the cutest photo? I’m with you – snails here are chicken food, but even I found this photo appealing!
Beautiful! So true, too. I can’t believe he wrote it when he was only 10!! :)
Thanks Chris! :)
I had the same reaction as Dana and delayed reading this post! What a lovely poem…a wise litte 10 year old (and older version too!). And gorgeous photo. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Oh dear, I’ve given everyone a scare, sorry. :) Thanks SG..
Sweet sister, where did this incredible talent and poetic soul come from? Must be from Pete’s side of the family. Wish I could have written something like that, at any age!
Loving your blog, which is now my homepage. Will try chicken soon. Did you say cook for one hour, 200 degrees?
xx
One and a half, 200C + fan! Will call.. :)
