Beautiful…. and no seeds??!!!! I am loving my own grown lemons too, Celia… mine are in pots. Whatchya making?

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:05 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

There are seeds Lizzy, but not a huge amount. Today we’re making quince jelly! :)

  2. on July 21, 2013 at 9:52 am Madge

Celia lemons are truly one of the small things in life that give so much and a little extra when they come from one’s own tree. I love that they have stayed the same all through my life. Thanks for this post.

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:06 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Madge, it’s a small blessing, isn’t it? Especially with all the engineered fruit and veg these days, lemons really have been a constant.

  3. on July 21, 2013 at 9:53 am lambsearsandhoney

I have tree groaning with them too. I’m planning lemon curd and preserved lemons very soon. Have a great day my friend.

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:07 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Amanda, we’re probably a couple of years off groaning, but we went from a single lemon last year to dozens this year, which is pretty wonderful! It’s been a nice day, hope yours was too, love. xx

  4. on July 21, 2013 at 10:24 am Manuela

Beautiful!! You are so lucky to have your own lemon tree!! They would never grow here!! What are you planning to make from them, or just enjoy them whole?

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:07 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Manuela, swings and roundabouts I guess, we can’t grow apples or berries here! We’ve picked this lot in for jam making today – quince jelly! x

  5. on July 21, 2013 at 10:33 am The Life of Clare

    They look so deliciously juicy!

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:08 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Clare, that’s been the big thing, they’re SO juicy! And they smell amazing…

  6. on July 21, 2013 at 11:18 am Maureen | Orgasmic Chef

I bought a big bag of lemons and wished I had a tree like yours.

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:08 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I wish you did too! :) Our tree is only a few years old, so we’re still very excited by it!

  7. on July 21, 2013 at 12:41 pm heidiannie

You are a wealthy woman, Celia!
I’ve always wanted to pick a lemon off a tree and use it!
I think they are beautiful just sitting in a bowl.
So glad your tree gifted you with more than one fruit!

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Heidi, I feel like I’ve shared the “lemon journey” with everyone – from our single solitary lemon, to more than we could carry in our hands! :)

  8. on July 21, 2013 at 2:35 pm Eha

Are yours Meyers? They look very similar to mine, tho’ mine have a few pips. Too busy to fertilize last season: tree ‘told me off’: about a dozen fruit instead of the usual couple of hundred :( !

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Eha, they’re an old fashioned bush lemon, not Meyers. They should be prolific, and they have a really thick rind, which helps them fight off the sucking insects…

  9. on July 21, 2013 at 4:25 pm Tandy

    Enjoy them!

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      Thanks darling, we will! x

  10. on July 21, 2013 at 4:58 pm Peter Bryenton (@peterbryenton)

And tnis is in your winter? Wow.

    • on July 21, 2013 at 5:10 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

The sun is up, and it’s been in the mid-20s (celsius) all week! Crazy weather, but I’m not about to complain! :)

  11. on July 21, 2013 at 5:35 pm Danielle

This is surely a case of ‘when life gives you lemons…enjoy!’ (and make quince jelly) ;-)

    • on July 21, 2013 at 6:56 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Danielle, the jelly has finally set! It took ages! :)

  12. on July 21, 2013 at 5:44 pm Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

Oh I adore lemons! We always have fresh ones in the fridge but I bet your home grown ones are better :D

    • on July 21, 2013 at 6:56 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I don’t know if they’re better, but they’re just outside the back door, which makes life so easy! :D

  13. on July 21, 2013 at 8:30 pm Misky

And a happy Sunday to you, too! Lovely lemons, and fab photos. I can almost smell them!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 11:55 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Misky, they smell amazing! I wish I had some way to capture that to share with everyone! :)

  14. on July 21, 2013 at 9:51 pm Jas@AbsolutelyJas

I adore lemons and have always wanted my own tree. We planted a dwarf lemon tree in a big pot in the backyard, but my dog took a ‘liking’ to it and invited it back to his kennel for a playdate. We have not spoken of the lemon tree since. Your lemons look delicious!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 11:55 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Jas, we never have much luck with dwarf fruit trees, so maybe your dog did you a favour! You might need to get a big one in the ground! :)

  15. on July 21, 2013 at 9:54 pm hotlyspiced

After last year’s ‘harvest’, I can totally understand why a whole post would be dedicated to this year’s results! Congratulations Celia on multiplying your results so amazingly! xx

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:01 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Charlie, it’s laughable how excited I get every time I see the tree! ;-)

  16. on July 21, 2013 at 9:58 pm Fig & Quince

Thank you for the cheerful sunshine lemons! You are so lucky to have your own tree! :)

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:01 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Thank you! I think so! It’s only a few years old, so we’re still very excited by it! :)

  17. on July 21, 2013 at 10:04 pm sallybr

    Beautiful! They look soooo juicy!

    Enjoy, Celia!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:02 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Sally, that’s been the best thing – the juice is delicious, and there’s heaps of it! x

  18. on July 21, 2013 at 10:42 pm Norma Chang

Such beauties, from one lemon last year to a pile of lemons this year, there will be baskets full next year, how exciting. Did you use the rind in your jelly or just the juice?

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:02 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Norma, just the juice in this case. Jelly post is coming up soon! :)

  19. on July 22, 2013 at 1:38 am cquek

    i love lemon

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:02 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

It’s one of my favourites too! :)

  20. on July 22, 2013 at 3:54 am Joanna

Happy Lemon Sunday! I think if there was one fruit I would take with me to a desert island it would be lemons :) How wonderful!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:03 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

They’re just fabulous, aren’t they? I was concerned we were growing such a thick rinded variety, but Pete assured me that they were the least trouble free!

  21. on July 22, 2013 at 9:35 am Claire @ Claire K Creations

Ooh Celia they’re so lovely and yellow and happy! I got three from my tree this weekend. There are a few yellow ones way up high so I’ll have to wait for them to fall. Are yours seedless too?
I can’t wait to see what you do with them!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 12:03 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Claire, they’re not seedless, but they don’t have a lot of seeds in them. Old fashioned bush variety with lots of juice! :)

  22. on July 22, 2013 at 6:08 pm Jo

It was a beautiful Sunday here too. What are the lemons destined for? My tree is laden and I’m thinking preserved lemons (which I haven’t done before).

    • on July 22, 2013 at 6:17 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Jo, they’ve been used in our quince jelly! I love preserved lemons – we use a Stephanie Alexander recipe.

  23. on July 22, 2013 at 9:23 pm Nine Cent Girl

Here in Vermont I have been picking wild raspberries… and making jam! Summer is the best!!

    • on July 22, 2013 at 9:24 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

How utterly and completely fabulous! Picking wild strawberries! Enjoy the summer! :)

  24. on July 23, 2013 at 10:44 am theintolerantchef

Winter sunshine indeed Celia! My citrus seems to be sulking, I think I need to be more diligent with fertilizing them :( x

    • on July 24, 2013 at 6:34 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Becca, I hope it picks up! It’s lovely having a tree in the backyard! :)

      • on July 24, 2013 at 8:17 am theintolerantchef

I have an orange and lime, finger lime, kaffir lime and a lemon tree Celia and all I’ve ever had was a couple of finger limes 2 years ago! Fickle things indeed!

        • on July 25, 2013 at 7:07 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Becca, ONLY our lemon tree is producing fruit. ALL the other fruit trees – lime, finger lime, kaffir lime, dwarf nectarines, peach, apricot, blueberries and avocado – have produced squat. We might need to rework all the soil in the “orchard”. Sigh.

  25. on July 23, 2013 at 12:43 pm dishnthekitchen

Oh how I miss having a lemon tree in the backyard. You know I never understood why lemons are sold in supermarkets in Australia. Everyone know someone who has a lemon tree!

    • on July 24, 2013 at 6:35 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Bernice, and yet there are times where we can’t find a neighbourhood lemon for love or money! Everyone’s fruit seems to ripen at exactly the same time, and then they’re gone! :)

  26. on July 24, 2013 at 2:27 am marilynscottwaters

I cannot cook without lemons. We have two lemons and two limes in our yard and they keep us happy year round. :-) Maz

    • on July 24, 2013 at 6:36 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Maz, I wish our limes would pick up, but they’ve been very disappointing! Thank goodness for the lemon! :)

      • on July 25, 2013 at 2:41 am marilynscottwaters

Your lemons are very thin skinned and look perfectly juicy. One of our lemons is a Mexican lime, with hundreds of tiny little yellow limes the size of golf balls. I recommend. Maz. :-)

        • on July 25, 2013 at 6:54 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I shall take note, thanks Maz! Not sure I’ve ever seen that variety, or whether it will grow here, but I’ll look out for it. x
