In my kitchen…
…are our gluten-free chestnut flour brownies, baked for Terri’s birthday. These have become the most requested thing I bake…
In my kitchen…
…is a kilo block of Parmigiano Reggiano, picked up on sale for just $20…
I grated most of it and stashed it in the freezer with the rinds…
The last bit of the cheese was turned into parmesan cookies…
In my kitchen…
…is a copy of the newest Jamie Oliver cookbook…
In my kitchen…
…is blueberry crumb cake. It was a big hit with the boys…
In my kitchen…
…is my latest chilli fix. I take these chipotle peppers in adobo…
…and blitz them into a paste with the stick blender. I’ve been stirring this into everything…
In my kitchen…
…are barberries from Harkola. I’ve been on the lookout for these ever since we tried them at the Georgian restaurant…
In my kitchen…
…are loads of backyard lemons and eggs…
In my kitchen…
…is a new decanter dryer from Peters of Kensington. It works very well and is far easier than trying to balance a decanter on its head like a giant mushroom…
In my kitchen…
…is a gift from our neighbour Liz – a Wonderbag slow cooker. This South African product is basically an insulated bag which keeps food warm, enabling it to continue cooking after it’s been removed from the heat source. We can’t wait to try it!
. . . . .

What lovely finds this month Celia! How about that slow cooker bag! I have to ask Johan about this. We don’t have one, but maybe his mom does so I’m curious to ask for any tips and tricks :) Are you liking the new Jamie book? I had a chance to speak with him yesterday at an event here in NY. Mind blowing. Can’t wait to grab a copy! PS- love those crackle top brownies. xx
Em, you got to meet Jamie! That makes me want to squeal like an old groupie… ;-)
Yes! He is a doll. I still can’t formulate my thoughts into words… it was really exciting. When it was time for Q&A, I shot my hand up first like the biggest nerd ever and spoke to him in front of the whole audience. I never do stuff like that! But what you see is what you get with Jamie and it was a truly amazing experience. ;) xx
You have, hands down the most tasty and inspirational IMK posts every month Celia. I love your decanter dryer, bet it would work well for vases with narrow necks too and I can’t wait to hear more about your Wonderbag slow cooker.
Have a wonderful day. My IMK post will be up tomorrow morning.
:-) Mandy xo
Thanks Mandy! The dryer cost $9.50 and I think it’s a bargain – I’ve spent ages trying to balance decanters in the drying rack! Have been experimenting with the Wonderbag – haven’t got it quite right yet, but I’m getting there!
What wonderful things! Here in my kitchen, I have apples for pie. We have another blasted heat wave coming but I’m pretending it’s fall. I made beer brats for the mencats last night and for me I’ve discovered seitan. It’s nummers. Let me know about the new Jamie book. I’m thinking of getting either that or the new Hugh F-W book. (Though Hugh’s recipes, while delicious, always seem to need weird ingredients) Hugs from California, Maz.
Maz, the new Jamie book is great, but it’s all about long, slow cooking. It’s definitely not like his 15 or 30 minute meals. The recipes aren’t hard, but they all take a bit of time. I don’t have Hugh’s new book as I’m not really into the gluten-free rage, but I do so love his River Cottage Veg book!
In your kitchen there is a fabulous food.
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes.
Thank you! :)
Hi Celia, I’ve seen that Wonderbag on the Internet and wondered if it works! Please please trial it for us? Love your gorgeous pictures as always, Jenny
Jenny, so far I’ve made a chilli con carne and cooked moghrabieh (big Lebanese pearl couscous) in it. The moghrabieh worked quite well (slightly overcooked) and the chilli was delicious, but it didn’t reduce (which of course, it wouldn’t) so I finished it on the stove. It was very easy though!
Presumably the wonderbag works on the same principle as cooking in hay – but without the smell. Wonderful looking lemons and eggs – will you make some delicious lemon curd?
Anne, I think that’s right! It’s worked quite well so far, I just need to find my groove with it. We’re drinking heaps of lemon and soda as the weather has just turned hot! Haven’t made lemon curd yet, but hopefully soon! :)
That block of Parmigiano Reggiano was a bargain. And reminds me I must make a trip to Lamonica’s soon. It’s been too long. I’ve seen snippets of Jamie’s Comfort Food on TV. No doubt the book will find its way onto my cook book shelf :)
Go soon ED, they have heaps of the reggiano still on sale. I might need to go back to get some more.. ;-)
Your brownies look really good. And that’s such a great price for the cheese and I love how organised you are with packing it all up and saving the rinds. The wonderbag looks interesting and I’d love to try the barberries xx
Thanks Charlie! The cheese WAS a huge bargain, wasn’t it! :)
A decanter dryer! Omg 😄 lots of eggs and lemons in my kitchen too – but my favourite thing is my new blender and the strawberry/grapefruit/Apple smoothie I’m making in it!
That sounds very healthy! It’s warming up here in Sydney, so we’re approaching smoothie (and to be honest, cocktail) weather! :)
Yes, I’m not too far away – the mid north coast. It’s warming up here as well ☀️
[…] bambini hanging out in my kitchen lately. It all happened by chance I promise you. And thanks to Celia, host of this monthly event and bread making enthusiast, I seem to have caught her bread making […]
Sooo many interesting things in your kitchen Celia! But those gluten free chestnut flour brownies really caught my attention! Not sure if I can find the chestnut flour here but I will have a look for it. I’m behind this month, will get IMK post ready soon—ish. xx
Ardys, the chestnut flour is an Italian speciality, so you might find it at Italian delis? That’s where I get mine. Honestly, they’ve been the most popular brownies I’ve ever made!
Chestnut flour brownies? Oh my I must try these
They’re actually BETTER than the original flour version! :)
That wonderbag could be a good camping addition. The parmesan biscuits look delicious, must try these. And the barberries in their very middle eastern bowl look beautiful.
Francesca, I think so, although you could probably improvise with a good esky. The parmesan cookies are a doddle in the food processor (and a bit too easy to eat..) :)
That wonderbag is so you Celia! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I think I’m most jealous of your kilo of cheese. What a bargain!
That’s a great idea blitzing up the chilis. Must try that.
Claire, I’m thinking of wearing the bag as a hat, it’s actually very fetching! I’ve cooked a couple of things in it too – so far so good, although I need to get my head around the fact that the liquid in the pot won’t reduce down any further once it’s in the bag…
This time I made it! Here is my post.
Hooray! Thanks Ale!
How brilliant is that decanter dryer! I’m heading over to Peter’s, thanks Celia.
And under $10, Rose! :)
Hi lovely! Lots of good things in your kitchen, as always Celia… the brownies look delicious… I still can’t find chestnut flour here… need to buy it online methinks! Barberries are delicious… one of my favourites! Your blueberry crumb cake looks and sounds yum! Is the recipe up? xox
Lizzy, I know Becca has been able to buy it in Canberra, but not sure where? The blueberry crumb cake is just our crumb cake recipe with a layer of defrosted blueberries in the middle! :)
https://figjamandlimecordial.com/2014/09/22/crumb-cake/
I just love your e-mails and I am really impressed with your cooking and your garden. Look forward to all your posts.
Thank you!
Would love, love some of those chestnut flour brownies and a lemon tree in my backyard. Those barberries remind me of goji berries.
Norma, I’d love an apple tree! I wish we could trade! :)
Celia, just wondering what you do with the reggiano rinds?
Me too!
Di and Jo, I keep them in the freezer and then throw them into pasta soups! I’ve been told that the old Italians clean them really well and give them to teething babies to chew on as well.. :)
https://figjamandlimecordial.com/2010/03/17/survival-soup/
It just so happens I bought two bags of chestnut flour by mistake. Guess who’s going to make brownies?!
As always…so much going on in your kitchen. I love it. And BTW, I may post a bit early this time (as in not just in the nick of time) because many things have been happening in my kitchen lately.
Bernice, I hope your tribe love them as much as we do! Look forward to your post, sounds like exciting times in your kitchen!
Great assembly of goodies, as usual, Celia! I am always amazed that you can come up with these posts, month after month!
I will be joining this party, my post is scheduled for Oct 5th… counting the days… ;-)
(there shall be dogs…. ;-)
Hooray! It’s good fun doing these posts – I’ve barely been online these past few weeks, but now I get a chance to catch up with everyone!
here it is, hoping to make your life easier… :-)
http://bewitchingkitchen.com/2014/10/05/in-my-kitchen-october-2014-2/
Mmm brownies! I too saw the tip about blending the chillies and storing in a jar but missed the bit about using in everything! Will have to do that.
Jo, the chipotles in adobo add a huge amount of flavour, but they’re much easier to use blitzed up! :)
Quick reply – love everything Celia – here is a pattern for an upcycled Wonderbag. We knew we were saving those odious polystyrene packing peanuts for something!
Thank you! Not sure I’ll be making one though – I’ve made bean bags before and the flying balls of polystyrene drove me mental!
Oopsie…
http://newlifenewpurpose.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/diy-bag-style-heat-retention-oven-from-upcycled-materials/
[…] honestly believe another month has past, so thank you Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for your In My Kitchen monthly series that allows me to keep track of […]
Those parmesan cookies look delish! Enjoy using your Wonderbag xxx
Cindy, I’m really looking forward to playing with it. Thank you! xx
G’day! Love your brownies and am a big, big fan of chipotle peppers in adobo!
Thanks for hosting this great series Celia! My post is now live too!
Cheers! Joanne
Jo, those chipotles in adobo really are the bomb, aren’t they! Thanks for playing! :)
some lovely things this month, I’m interested in the new Jamie book, I’ve got about six of his, but he bring them out so often now I wonder if they’ve got enough new stuff to be worthwhile…
The new Jamie book is quite different to the previous ones. It’s full of slow cooked recipes rather than his more usual 15 and 30 minute ones. The other thing that’s worth knowing is that it’s much harder to navigate – the book isn’t separated into “chicken” or “pasta” but rather sections like “old favourites” (I don’t have the book with me right now and everyone is asleep, or I’d take a photo of the contents page to show you).
Thanks Celia, sounds like an interesting new approach for him. I’ll have a look at the table of contents on Amazon…
Just had a look for you – the chapter headings are:
Intro
Nostalgia
Good Mood Food
Pick Me Ups
Ritual
Guilty Pleasures
Sweet Indulgence
Nutrition
Index
The book is on sale at Costco for $23! :)
Thanks Celia, now that’s sounding too tempting!
It’s no wonder your chestnut brownies and blueberry crumb cake are major hits. They both look so good just by looking.
~Do drop by and say hello :)
Gourmet Getaways
Thanks Julie! They were both gone in a flash! :)
Hi Celia, I got Jamie’s book last month and I love it. Your cake looks ah-maz-ing. I’d love a slice of it right now… And those Parmesan cookies are knock-out. You’ve got lots of things that I love in your kitchen. Can I come over? Lol!
I have written an In My Kitchen post, but I’m in Japan at the moment and I’m having trouble linking it here. I was wondering if you could link it from my blog? I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much. I’ll be checking out the other IMK posts when I return. Cheers and thanks again.
Jen, was it you? I know I saw it in one of last month’s IMK posts, so when I passed it at Costco, I had to pick it up! :) Your post is up – hope you’re having a ball in Japan!
*tried to add link, but I just keep getting a Japanese URL!
I always love your kitchen post Celia…. The chestnut flour in the brownie intrigues me and that Blueberry Crumb Cake is going in my arsenal when I have enough blueberries to use my own :) Liz x
My Post is nearly finished and will be up tomorrow morning :) Thanks!
http://www.themotherhubbardscupboard.com/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/
Liz, I still can’t access your post – could you please drop me another comment when it’s live? I don’t want to miss it.
Sorry about that.. I didn’t see this, but you obviously got it :-) Thanks again for hosting this great idea :-)
Some really interesting and unique goodies this month Celia! Great buy on that cheese, the decanter dryer is brilliant too, no chance of chips by resting it upside down on the sink. I’d definitely like to hear more about your Wonderbag, never come across that before but am intrigued for sure xox
Becca, I’m pretty sure I read about a thermal cooker on your blog? This works on the same principle, but you don’t have to put it in the sun.
I love that decanter dryer! It’s much better than a big wooden spoon in a jar. Lovely things in the kitchen, Celia!
A wooden spoon in a jar? I could almost guarantee I’d break both the decanter AND the jar if I tried that, M! :D
I was given Jamie’s Comfort Food book for my birthday tonight. Can’t wait to test out a few recipes. That Wonderbag is a great idea, similar to a thermal pot I guess.
Happy birthday Charmaine! That’s a great present! :)
I am sooo jealous of those backyard lemons. Lucky you!
Don’t be jealous! We can grow lemons and limes, but we can’t grow apples!
Another wonderful month in your kitchen! I am jealous of the fresh eggs and lemons. I have been watching Jamie promote his new book and look forward to checking it out soon. Those brownies looks sinfully delicious.
The eggs are a treat, they’re coming thick and fast at the moment, and the lemons are falling off the tree! I thought WE had a lot of eggs (we get about four a day), but my sister in law is visiting, and she gets between 14 and 20 eggs PER DAY! :)
Oh wow! Egg heaven!
Just got my IMK post up. Thanks for hosting!
http://feedingmy3sons.com/2014/10/03/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/#more-1288
Hi Celia, That Parmigiano Reggiano was a real bargain. I would have jumped on it too. What are you going to do with your barberries? I still haven’t used the ones I bought at Herbies when I was with you.
Here is the link to my post. http://passionfruitgarden.com/2014/10/02/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/ Have a good month.
Glenda, here’s what I’m thinking of doing with the barberries…
http://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/barberry-rice-zereshk-polow
whetting my appetite again with a peak in your kitchen! I am still harvesting Meyer lemon from the tree in my garden. Weirdly, they never turned yellow (they have been on the branch since early June!). The juice is delicious, and the peel gives off that wonderful Meyer lemon fragrance. It just isn’t… yellow! Yes, I am doing an In My Kitchen October, and will send you the link soon. Have a great October in your kitchen! Francine
Fran, that IS weird about the lemons! Although our first lemon seemed to take a lifetime to go yellow! Look forward to peeking into your kitchen! x
What lovely things in your kitchen Celia, from the comforting to the exotic and complete bargains too. And I do think your freezer most have the most interesting mix of goodies ever, you’re always stashing delicious/inventive bits & bobs in there!
Andrea, the freezer is a bit of a mix between an Aladdin’s Cave and a junkyard – I try to make sure we turn things in there over regularly, but I do occasionally uncover something that’s three years old and seriously past even its frozen use by date! :) The good thing though is that I can ALWAYS pull a meal out of it – helps us to avoid the takeaway trap!
Oh those brownies-my favourite too! :D And what a bargain that reggiano is-you always find such great deals :)
Hooray for chestnut flour brownies, everyone loves them! I have a bag of barberries for you, love x
[…] have been wanting to join Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial in her monthly “In My Kitchen“ event, and whew, I have finally made it! […]
Hi Celia! I am excited to join “In My Kitchen” for the first time! I just put my post up. Here is the link:
http://creatingbeautyinthekitchen.wordpress.com/2014/10/01/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/
Oh, and am I supposed to tell you where I am at in the world? Pacific Northwest, USA
Thanks for playing Lori! :)
great things in your kitchen Celia! I love that wonderbag- have never seen nor heard of one before. And such a great idea with the parmesan- I am really trying to make more use of my freezer lately. love barberries- i was so glad when fiona told me you can get them here in Brissie!
here is my IMK post- http://sherryspickings.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
Sherry, I run two freezers – crazy I know – but it makes all the difference to staying within budget and keeping the wolves fed!
Hi there Celia, I have just posted my first IMK post and am so happy to be part of this inspiring series. Here is my blog link:
http://makeitbakeitsnapit.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
Thanks for joining in Kirsty! There are lots of Canberran IMK posts – you guys are all serious foodies down there! :)
I’m trying to work out how that bag works so looking forward to reading about it soon. I’m a bit go a Jamie groupie too although I find there is a bit of snobbery around admitting that I don’t know why- and don’t care! I’d go a slice of one of your brownies for brekkie!
Snobbery around liking Jamie! Not here, you’re always welcome to pop by and rave about him! :D
I’ll be keen to hear what you think of Jamie’s new book, Celia. I’ve just added 6 new cookbooks to my shelves, but there’s always room for one more.
Amanda, it’s quite different to the other ones he’s written, but I like it very much. It has a gentle relaxed feel about it, whereas a few of the others felt busy. My sister in law is visiting and she’s spent all week with her head in the book! :)
[…] Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial hosts a monthly forum of worldwide food bloggers show casing what’s happening in their kitchens. Each month I learn something new, it’s worth taking a peek. Thanks Celia, I know it’s a huge effort. […]
Another busy month in your kitchen Celia. We looove your chestnut flour brownies too! That Wonderbag looks like an interesting concept, i’m going to have to check that out. Here’s my October IMK http://wp.me/p2frs2-1GX
Sandra, it has a wonderful backstory too – for every bag purchased in a first world country, they donate one to charity. AND it’s produced in a workshop which provides work to women in crisis!
Hello again Celia. That cheese was a total bargain…grating and freezing is such a good idea. I am very interested in Jamie’s new book. I have just read the chapter headings that you kindly listed above, it sounds great.
That crumb cake looks incredibly good. I have used barberries in a fruit sourdough loaf, mixed in with other dried fruit. I look forward to seeing how you use them. Good eggs and fresh lemons just have so much potential don’ they? Thanks again for your tour and hosting all the other tours! My post is scheduled for the morning. x
Jane, the barberries are really interesting – Pete is very taken with them. I want to try making a barberry rice recipe. Jamie’s book is really growing on us all – it hasn’t left the dining room table yet. We tried the burgers from his first show, and they were divine!
I may have to steal some of your parmesan – what a bargain! Barberries are a great favourite of Ottolenghi – he uses them in a lot of his recipes.
Oooh thanks love, I’ll drag out my Ottolenghi cookbooks and have a look. I thought the reggiano was ridiculously cheap, less than the grana padano!
[…] I am so pleased to be participating again in the In My Kitchen series hosted by the fabulous Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial. […]
So glad I stopped by your kitchen this month, Celia! As always you have inspired me, gotten my taste buds is a frenzy and sent me to the internet! Thanks soo much for sharing so much of hyourself and your delightful family’s favorites
Heidi! Hello darling, hope you’re well, I’ve missed you! Hope you’ve been busy baking madly and spending time with your gorgeous grandbabies!
I miss you, too, Celia! My blog has ridiculous problems- I am battling another cold- visiting back and forth to New York to see the boys- and yes baking- always baking. My Kindle just died- the second one, now- so I am trying to get them to replace it this time. I hate making phone call after phone call! Anyway- so glad to see your post- I’m looking to make those brownies, soon. :)
Oh I have got to get one of those decanter dryers. I’ve got so many things that I balance very precariously in the dish drainer. I certainly wouldn’t pass up those brownies but I’ve not heard of chestnut flour. I’m guessing it’s made with ground chestnuts much like the almond flour I found to make some gluten free chicken picatta.
I’m very curious to hear about that wonderbag slow cooker. Is it basically an insulated bag? Can’t wait until you try it out & tell us how that works.
I had to look back at your pic of the lemons & eggs because I only read ‘lemons’ – thought to myself…boy is Celia going to be surprised when she squeezes those brown ‘lemons’!
Great post as always Celia.
Di, I think you could make the brownies with almond flour, but I’ve never tried. The original flour version is also very good (although Pete now prefers the chestnut flour ones) – the recipe is here:
https://figjamandlimecordial.com/2010/07/05/fudge-brownies/
The Wonderbag is basically a polystyrene filled bag – like a beanbag – which gathers around the pot and keeps it warm to let it continue cooking. I made a potato ragout in it yesterday – normally I would boil it for an hour, but this time it just had 15 minutes and then two hours sealed up in the Wonderbag. It worked really well, although the texture is a little different – I’m still trying to work around the fact that it doesn’t reduce (obviously) once it’s in the bag. I’ll try and write a longer post about it soon!
[…] am joining Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial again for another In My Kitchen post. What a busy month we had in […]
your brownies and parmesan bikkies look great and I love the novel ideas with the decanter dryer and also blitzing up the chillis in adobe – I hate having to chop them up so I think I might do this with my jar I have had for years (don’t go through them quickly). All looks great and cosy and homely.
Have done my IMK post – http://gggiraffe.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
Hi Celia so many fabulous things in your kitchen this month. I love the sound of your parmesan cookies so will be trying those out and one of my girls is gluten intolerant so will definitely be doing the brownies for her, they look delicious. I’ve put Jamie’s new book on my birthday wish list, have you tried his comfort burger yet? I’m curious to see how you use the barberries and I’ve never seen anything like that bag, interesting!
Here is what has been going on in my kitchen http://www.boiledeggsandsoldiers.com/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014-a-monthly-round-up/
thanks so much
My goodness what a bargain you got on the cheese, it’s usually so expensive thankfully a little goes a long way. Good idea about freezing I never thought to do that.
I love the look of those gluten-free chestnut brownies Celia and have pinned them for later reference. I’ve only ever had roasted chestnuts, but it would be fun to cook with the flour too. I’ve also been getting lots of lemons from my sister’s backyard, unfortunately I still need to buy eggs from the store. Her chickens have only just begun producing.
Here’s my IMK for October: http://healthystories.com.au/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october/
I am excited about the new Jamie Oliver cookbook, is ti good? I might wait and buy it after I have finished my 8 week program :)
here is my post! thanks

Here’s my offering Celia- better late than never! :)
http://intolerantchef.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
I love the idea of a bag slow cooker – what a great concept. And your lemon and egg stash is impressive, as are those barberries (which I’d never heard of!). The brownies always look great :) I love the new Jamie book too, although I don’t own that one.
I’ve just shared my IMK post for this month – http://www.bitesizedthoughts.com/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
I needed a decanter dryer this weekend… and I needed barberries. They weren’t in the 3 supermarkets I expected and I didn’t have time to go further afield. Made do with fresh pomegranate seeds in the end. Really fancy that Jamie book.
[…] how traumatic the experience is… but thank God, I am still here. Once again joining Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, this is my very pink October […]
Hi Celia, we have moved and now do not have access to the fantastic myer lemon tree that used to just keep giving..so I am a bit jealous of your lemon bounty. Thank you for a peek in your kitchen and hope you visit mine at http://www.anythingbuttoast.com until next month!
[…] excited to show you in my kitchen this month. Thank you to Celia at Fig Jam & Lime Cordial for hosting this wonderful party. If you’d like to show us what’s in your kitchen we’d love […]
There is a lot going on in your kitchen, Celia! That special cake looks fabulous & very appetizing too! That book of Jamie looks grew too! And those gluten-free chestnut flour brownies look fantastic & so delicious too!
Good morning Celia & everyone. I hope you all had a lovely weekend :) Ready to go for another month – lots of goodies to see IMK. http://missfoodfairy.com/2014/10/05/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/
I have to say Celia, after watching Jamie’s Comfort Food on TV I want that cookbook – yummy recipes in there I can imagine! Mmmmm . . . Brownies . . . just drooling on myself, your brownies look that good! Can’t wait to give them a go. And that slow cooker bag seems like a great concept – let me know if its good or not.
Thank you again for another wonderful party – so much inspiration to find. I’m loving being a part of IMK.
I need to find myself one of the decanter driers! I am going to get Kerry to send me some chestnut flour as I cannot find any here :)
Love your eggs and lemons, Celia, we’re getting 3 eggs a day and no lemons :) And could you post those brownies to Canberra? No? Ok.
I’ve done my IMK for October too – https://thefoodmarshall.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/in-my-kitchen-october-2014/
As always, so many fabulous things in your kitchen Celia. I’m itching to try your chestnut flour brownies and I would love to have backyard eggs and lemons – fabulous.

Did I understand correctly in the previous comments…did you get to meet Jamie Oliver? I am a little envious! The book sounds fabulous! And those brownies made with chestnut flour sound wonderful. I’ll have to go looking around to see if I find chestnut flour at my local speciality shop. :)
I just post my October edition of IMK. We have fall here in full force, the fields are golden brown and the there are geese flying in the sky. The long winter will soon be arriving. So enjoyed your post.
Oh I wish! No, Emilie got to meet Jamie, lucky girl! The chestnut flour is Italian, so you might find it at continental delis. Look forward to your post, Laila, you’ve now got me wondering what the Autumn light will be like in your part of the world.. :) xx
We made Jamie’s burgers on Friday night for dinner and they were fantastic.
Here’s my post:

We made them as well Emma, they were fabulous!
I’m glad to hear your comments on Jamie’s book. I have been frustrated that everywhere I go it is shrink wrapped and I can’t get a look inside. I was reluctant to buy it without seeing it. That is a fantastic bargain for Parmesan, and a brilliant tip for the chipotles. Thanks. I love the look of your blueberry cake. Might have to try it as blueberries have just started to appear here.
I finally got my post up for this month http://thecookspyjamas.com/kitchen-october-2014/
Tania, at Costco they had one display copy open and the rest were shrinkwrapped as well. It’s a very nice book, I like the feel of it, but as I said, it’s not laid out in a particularly easy to use format.

Hi Celia, I’m afraid I’m joining the Canberra onslaught with my first IMK post this month… Thank you for hosting, and apologies for squeaking in just before the deadline!

Thanks for joining in Clara!
Thanks for hosting Celia! I’m loving the look of your crumb cake and I’m busy pondering what I could make that would go with some chipotle peppers too. I’m sure that they would help spice up many a freezer meal as I stock up for post baby….
I finally got my post up. Whew! Hopefully Attila co-operates and I’ll be able to make next month too…

Lisa, chipotles in adobo is one of our favourites, but it was always a bit of a pain to chop up the chillis. Now I just dip into the jar! :)
Hi Celia! The parmasan! What a bargain! What do you do with the rinds?
Lisa, I toss the rinds into pasta soup! :)
Hi Celia – where to start. First of all, I cannot believe that Emilie got to meet Saint Jamie – I would be groupie a-go-go with you!! I’ve been watching the TV series that accompanies the book and I cannot get his Lobster Mac and Cheese out of my head! Those brownies look incredible so chestnut flour has been added to my shopping list. It’s my turn to sigh over all the gorgeous spring and summer produce that you will be showcasing now – I am looking at months of cabbage. Those parmesan biscuits look great – one of my blogging friends adds the rinds to meat sauces to give them a deeper flavour. The chipotle sauce must be wonderful – I have a bottle full of dried ones which I reconstitute and whizz or chop when needed. Your paste is a much better idea. And I love the decanter dryer – I often use drying cutlery to dangle just washed flutes off – your rack is brilliant for vases and bottles too. Your kitchen is always full of the most wonderful things….
I *know*, how exciting eh? We’d have been there with in our Jamie t-shirts, Selma! :) Adding the parm rind to meat sauces is a great idea, thank you!

Your brownies and blueberry crumb cake had me reaching to pop the kettle on, and I’m green with envy with your backyard chooks! Cheers!

So many amazing things in your kitchen this month, Celia! I want that Jamie Oliver cookbook. I love his food style. We just used the chipotle peppers in our chili con carne last week – and boy did it add flavor! When I found barberries at the specialty market, I was overzealous and bought a bit too much, but I love adding it to all sorts of rice dishes and salads. Great post! Thank you for hosting IMK!

Hi Celia, What a great idea to freeze the Parmigiano Reggiano. Very handy to have a supply in the freezer. A drier for your decanter – now that’s something for the person who has everything!

Lovelovelove that decanter dryer, Celia! And I would faint if I could find a deal like that on Parmigiano Reggiano!
Oh I have some chestnut flour that I’ve been meaning to use, I think brownies may be the answer! Love love love chipotle on everything, I use powder but the puree sounds wonderful. As always jealous of your home raised produce! xx
Hi Celia, That blueberry crumb looks delicious. I’m also very curious about that wonder bag, I’ve never heard of anything like that!
I’d like to add my IMK for this month.
http://cookingforkishore.blogspot.com/2014/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2014.html
Hi Celia just catching up with the IMK posts, better late than never :) The brownies look fabulous and gluten free, a wonderful plus for some. I have yet to bake with chestnut flour. Jamie is such a talented fellow and love his cooking. The decanter dryer is wonderful, must keep and eye out as Mum gave me a few crystal ones which are such a pain to dry. Do you make your own lemon curd, bet it would taste so amazing using your own fresh home produce :)
I am so annoyed with myself that I missed In My Kitchen this month, but will definitely be back next month. The parmesan cookies look particularly yummy: to be honest I have always preferred savory to sweet, notwithstanding what’s on my blog. That decanter drainer looks very practical as well. Always worried about knocking them over when drying.
Hi Celia – It was great to stumble upon your blog who was as enthused about Tromboncino as I am. Here is my back story.
I bought my seeds from pinetree looking for a Korean squash that had similar leaf and shape. It turned out to be a Italian heirloom squash that took over my boyfriend’s garden. I was amazed how big and prolific they got. I wasn’t impressed with the taste but with the abundance I had to think fast what I can do with it. I got into canning when I found a zucchini salsa recipe on line. Since then I modified the recipe to include Trinidad Scorpions to make some really hot salsa. I’ve been doing this for past three years canning and selling salsas thanks to this wonderful zucchini. This venture have included my hot pineapple salsa, curry relish, zapple strudels, and zapple cake. All thanks to this wonderful zucchini.
Here’s the address for the salsa http://www.food.com/recipe/zucchini-salsa-canned-11217.
And this book for my zapple recipes http://www.amazon.com/The-Classic-Zucchini-Cookbook-Recipes/dp/1580174531.
It’s canning season here in Central Pennsylvania so I hope you enjoy the recipes. I even paid my massages with my salsa.
Take care

Maria, thanks for taking the time to share all this info! I’m so impressed you’re using Scorpion chillis – I’m scared to even touch them! :) So glad you’ve been able to turn the trombie glut into such a viable business!

I’d love to hear about your experience with the Wonderbag! I haven’t checked out the new Jamie Oliver book yet so I’m curious to see if he has a number of vegan recipes, as he makes the effort to come up with really good vegan recipes on his website. I had those same chipotle peppers but they went bad quickly :( The barberries look great! I’ve just put up my own IMK for this month (apologies for missing the past three months!)

Celia, those brownies sound delicious. Have you posted the recipe? Chestnuts and chocolate, yum! I love the Jamie Oliver book although, now with summer approaching, many of my favorite recipes are fall and winter ones.
I look forward to reading how you use the Wonderbag. I have heard of it but not seen any recipes. What a wonderful idea.
