This month’s IN MY KITCHEN is now closed!
Please join us again in April! ♥
. . . . .
To all the wonderful folks who donated to Kim’s fundraiser in February – THANK YOU. Your generosity has made a huge difference!
Over the last month, Kim has been sending me lovely email updates with photos of their progress. She and Russ have bought a secondhand double trailer home and had it shipped to their spot by the lake (I’ll let Kim tell you all about that in her IMK post). And whilst they didn’t get to their target amount, they did raise enough money – mostly through IMK donations – to buy a brand new stove and a new refrigerator.
To understand how much of an impact your contributions have made, you should know that the stove and fridge might be the only new large appliances in their next home – they plan to replace nearly everything else with flea market and secondhand finds.
Kim sent me these photos to share with you. Here’s her stove being assembled…
Their brand new fridge…
And a sneak peek at their “old/new” house, mid-renovation. There will be lots more photos in her IMK post this month…
Again, to everyone who donated, thank you for your kind generosity!
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a gift from my mad friend Nancy in Shanghai. I adored everything in my surprise parcel, from the wineglass rings to the Chinese New Year napkins to the ribbons and trims. I’m especially fond of the small enamel plates…
But my favourite is this Carrefour shopping bag, complete with Chinglish inscription…
In my kitchen…
…there is always bread. I was especially happy with how these banneton loaves turned out…
In my kitchen…
…were fresh lychees, a gift from the darling Monkey Girl for Chinese New Year. They were eaten on the same day…
In my kitchen…
…are Sidecar cocktails. They’re a fabulous Friday night drink…
In my kitchen…
…is a gift from lovely Jaqi – a gorgeous Valentina Jones pendant cut from a vintage ceramic plate. I’ve worn it twice already!
In my kitchen…
…are the last of this year’s snake beans. We’ve had a bumper crop…
In my kitchen…
…is a “shake the fridge” dinner (to borrow Bizzy Lizzy’s term) of leftover chorizo, potatoes, garden beans and boiled eggs. It was delicious and garlicky…
In my kitchen…
…was a tray of pulled pork. It’s now been portioned up and frozen for future meals…
In my kitchen…
…is a new cheese board, a gift from the wonderful Maureen, whom I finally met up with last week…
In my kitchen…
…are baked treats from Tart Sisters in Ashfield, which we visited on the advice of lovely Lorraine. Their lemon tart was particularly good…
And speaking of Lorraine, in my kitchen…
…are these fabulous Turkish goodies that she gave me. Pete demolished all the apricot nougat swirls in one sitting, and I can’t wait to try out the ras el hanout – it smells amazing!
In my kitchen…
…is Kevin’s chocolate platter. As I’ve mentioned previously, we’re now making these for all the upcoming 50th birthdays, but the selection varies each time. Kev’s present included our new truffle brownies, 50th birthday lollipops and card, dipped candied orange, assorted milk feuilletine and dark origin chocolate dragons. If you count them, you’ll find there’s exactly 50 pieces…
. . . . .
Tell me, what’s happening in your kitchen this month?
If you’d like to do an In My Kitchen post on your own blog, please feel free to do so. We’d love to see what’s happening in your kitchen this month! Please link back to this blog, and let us know when your post is up, and we’ll add it to our monthly listing. Please upload your post by the 10th of each month.

Such a happy ending to the story. So pleased for Kim and her family. I’ve heard so much about the IMK series, and always feel tempted to jump right in, but alas I’ve been procrastinating. I like all your additions to your kitchen :)
Great post, there is always so much going on in your kitchen.
Wow Celia, so many gifts. You are blessed with lovely friends. Your bread looks magnificent, as always, as does your gift of 50. Such a lovely idea.
Here is my post for this month. http://passionfruitgarden.com/2015/02/28/in-my-kitchen-march-2015/.
All the very best to you and your men.
Such good news about Kim! Love all the goodies in your kitchen but if I could just reach in and snaffle a few lychees :)
That’s amazing news about Kim’s new appliances, how wonderful :)
And lovely to see all of you wonderful goodies in your kitchen – but what exactly is that Chinglish meant to say??? How funny! I keep carrier bags from Abu Dhabi and their Carrefour bag seems very dull by comparison!
Happy IMK Celia xx (ps currently baking a loaf with my very own homemade starter 😀😀😀😀 yay!!)
Great round up, Celia!
I am particularly jealous of you meeting Maureen, but… maybe one day life will smile my way and I get to meet her and you too
;-)
The birthday platter looks amazing!! You have so many beautiful and tasty things in your kitchen!
A kitchen full of interesting and yummy things as usual Celia 😊
Can’t tell if I’m more impressed by the bread or the cocktail… actually, it all looks lovely! Great work.
Lovely to see Kim’s new appliances, Celia. I love the Chinglish translation on that shopping bag… and your sense of humour! Those lychees look so, so, so fresh, I don’t think I want to buy them from the supermarket anymore! Your snake beans are amazing! Happy cooking love, and thanks for the peek.
I love ras el hanout. Lovely post again this month.
It all looks very interesting Celia. I especially love the look of the cheeseboard. Nougat and Turkish delight from Turkey would be amazing; it was far more elaborate and varied than I had ever dreamed. Thank you for the update on Kim and Russ’s kitchen/house. So glad to have been of assistance to them.
Another lovely post, Celia. So glad things are working out for Kim! Your bread always looks amazing. I haven’t baked bread for a couple of busy weeks, but I’ve been feeding Princess Sandy, and I have a batch of Sourdough pancake mix waiting to be cooked for Sunday brekkie :-) Wow! that chocolate platter!! 1965 was a very good year ;-) it seems there are a few of us turning 50 this year! I’m so pleased that you love the Valentina Jones Vintage Pendant. It’s old English Myott china……such a great way to upcycle! I’m Glad you are wearing and enjoying it. Have a great March!
So many great things in your kitchen. I’m super jealous of the candied oranges dipped in chocolate {jaffa is one of my favourite flavours} and they just look amazeballs! We picked up some lychees last month from a roadside vendor on our drive back to Canberra and I made a lychee and pineapple sago. I’m joining in this month, here is my post: http://goodfoodweek.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/life-whats-in-my-kitchen-this-month.html
“Chinglish”, Laughed out very loud at that! Great for Kim, she is quite amazing. Should get you to review the Tart Sisters Lemon Tart on my FB “Worlds Best Lemon Tart” page. I’m searching for the best! As always a great roundup! Can it really be March?
What a bonanza Celia. I often admire those plates in Nancy’s posts so lucky you! Don’t mind the look of those garlicky beans and eggs either. Great news on Kim too. cheers Fiona
So like the Carrefour shopping bag [methinks we all remember our variations on the theme] and have just decided to have that ‘shake the fridge’ meal for supper!!
“Shake the fridge” — what an appropriate term, although if I was shaking my fridge today very little would fall out! It is wonderful news about Kim, and shows how many generous and caring people there are. thanks for letting have a peek into your bustling and surprising kitchen, Celia.
So many fantastic things again Celia! I’m so glad Kim ‘s new place is coming together, I hope it’s everything they desire in a home. You have a lovely fridge dinner there and the bread and pork would be delicious. You are so generous with your time, love and chocolates, that I’m not surprised you have lovely gifts sent to you as well :) xo

That’s lovely to hear about Kim’s fridge and stove, I can’t imagine what they are going through. Those lychees looks so good, at Christmas time one of our dear friends give us a treasured box of lychees and I look forward to them every year :) Those chocolates look so good, food is the best present!
Happy IMK Celia! And what a great selection of goodies. That’s so wonderful that so much for raised for Kim and her family. And I’m an absolute fiend for lychees! Thank you for my IMK gift! :D P.S. Hubby devoured the nougat too :P
Celia, how great to hear about Kims progress on their recovery from that tragic house fire. So glad my little contribution played a part, as well as all the other generous souls out there. Pay it forward I say.
I love your chocolate platter. I could eat those choc dipped orange slices by the handful!
I’ve posted my March IMK. http://makeitbakeitsnapit.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/in-my-kitchen-march-2015.html

What a gorgeous pendant – and chocolate platter! Also, you’ve reminded me that I’ve never had fresh lychees. I think I need to do something about that.
Thanks for hosting, as always – I have just put my March IMK post up :) http://www.bitesizedthoughts.com/2015/03/in-my-kitchen-march-2015.html
I wish I’d been your friend when I turned 50! All those delicious antioxidants… Glad your efforts for Kim paid off too.
I love your 50th gift! What a fabulous treat to receive! And I’m lusting over your cheese board!
Lots of lovely presents Celia, how wonderful and fitting as you are always doing things for others. I sure hope for your sake you dont know too many people turning 50 at once. Wish I had a driver to take me to your place on a Friday night!
What another roundup this month. You have such wonderful friends to both give lovely gifts and receive your 50th chocolate platter. Who wouldn’t want to turn 50 and receive that?! Your bread looks scrumptious as always. My started arrived just the other day and I am so excited!!

Your IMK is a wonderful advertisement of the blogging community. Generousity offered and accepted… I’m pleased for Kim & her family, lots of interesting prezzies have landed on your kitchen bench and lots have gone out.
I love the ‘shake the fridge’ dinner… I get so carried away buying at the farmers markets that later in the week I need to employ some creativity to turn the impulse buys into food :)
What a great selection of goodies. I do think it’s wonderful how you make 50 chocolates for 50th birthdays – what wonderful gift. Your snake beans and your ‘shake the fridge’ meal look very good and what a great cheese board from Maureen xx
Here you go – loving being a part of this! https://napolirestaurantalert.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/in-my-kitchen-march-2015/
I’m jealous of your Carefour bag – another reason to visit Shanghai, I only have the ordinary French ones!
And Snake Beans – double that jealousy. Something I’ve never grown. I think I’d need a heated greenhouse…
Not really jealous :)

This is such a wonderful community and I am happy (excited) to show you the first glimpse of Sam, son of Priscilla. Thank you so much Celia.
I am so glad that Kim has landed on her feet.
Snake beans will be part of my summer garden this year. Do they need very hot weather?
https://spadesspatulasandspoons.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/in-my-kitchen-march/
I love the ‘Chinglish’. So funny but so sweet. Am envious of your fresh lychees (yum) and the bread you bake.
ps 50th chocolate platter is awsome!!!
Celia, did I tell you that I’ll be 150 next week? I’ll leave the door unlocked so you can just pop round and put the chocolate on the kitchen table.
I love lychees but I bet yours taste far better than the ones we get imported over here.
I am very curious about the snake beans. And wow look at all those chocolates, someone in my house would be very very excited.

Celia, such mouthwatering stuff in your kitchen yet again. Myself: still baking with Lonestar, and loving the crusty bread with the light chew he yields. Have been a little MIA (new job taking up my time). However, a March In My Kitchen post is in the making… sending food love, F

Celia, I’m so glad to hear of the progress for your friend, Kim–it is a long journey recovering from a fire, as we have seen many friends through it over the last few years. There can be so much hope in a new stove!
You are blessed with precious and delicious gifts in your kitchen this month, not least of all, friendship. :)

Okay Celia – I’ve read the Chinglish about 5 times now & I’m thinking I might do better if I tried again with a Sidecar :)
You’ve got so much great stuff in your kitchen this month but I’m sort of craving those 50th chocolates. I really love the ’50’ chocolate pops – those would be gone in a flash.
Beautiful pendant & so thoughtful a gift.
That ‘shake the fridge’ meal looks as good as any 5 star meal I’ve ever seen & worth a run to the grocery store.
Excellent news on Kim’s new digs. She sounds like she’s taken things in stride & making the best of such a sad experience.

Dear Celia, I’m ready to raise a Side Car cocktail to you (haven’t had one of those in a long time… sounds great!) aand nosh on your “shake the fridge” dinner, ala Liz! :) It’s snowing and blowing here (again…) which possibly means interrupted satellite (aka internet) signal between now and the 10th (IMK deadline), but I’ll get around to as many posts as I can. (Such a JOY!) In the meantime, here’s my update… xo. http://alittlelunch.com/2015/03/04/in-my-kitchen-march-2015/ THANK YOU!
P.S. 50 pieces of your delectable chocolates?! Happy Birthday to your friend… I’ll be 57 on the 12th. ;)
I always feel like a gross underachiever when I read your IMK posts Celia :) You have so much going on. I was given some snake bean seeds this year but it was too late to plant them so I hope they will still be good next season. I would love a good crop. I recently made my first batch of pulled pork, and now fully understand why you find it so useful.

I’m a bit jealous of those tarts… I saw that post too and I don’t live in Sydney any more… I wish I new about NQN before I moved! Thanks for sharing and hosting as usual :) here is my IMK this month! I’m a few days behind, so lots to catch up on! Liz xx

Good evening Celia. In My Kitchen is getting enormous isn’t it?
Your kitchen is always full of goodness. But, this month I love your bread! That is my kind of bread and you have motivated me to drag out the bannetons over the weekend. I need to bake bread, the time has come. I know you understand.
I could do with one of those cocktails.
Your snake beans are amazing. What a fabulous crop.
My post is linked. Thank you for your patience with our posts and our kitchens!
What a wonderful blog and community you have over here! I heard about In My Kitchen and decided to come along for the ride, I hope that’s ok? My link is here http://atravellingcook.blogspot.de/2015/03/in-my-kitchen-this-month.html
Cate, A Travelling Cook, Leipzig, Germany.
PS The chocolate platter looks like it is from a fancy shop…only better :)
What a fabulous selection of gifts and goodies. I love the “shake the fridge” concept and your meal looks great. I only did my first pulled pork the other week but now it will be on our regular repertoire – was great in tacos. Will head over to Kims site now to take a look too. I missed contributing last month as my website has undergone an overhaul but back up and running now so here is my post for this month. Thank you so much for hosting. http://www.boiledeggsandsoldiers.com/2015/03/in-my-kitchen-march-2015/
I love those photos you posted from Kim. I am so happy for them. :)
I love you post, Celia – great round up. Those Chinese stuffs are so beautiful. I have a weakness for Chinese and Japanese kitchen wares.
Celia, IMK has been such a treat to explore each month. Thank you for hosting this event, a gathering of interesting cooks and kitchens. Now I’m eager to explore your sourdough recipes, perhaps even christen my starter with a name instead of a changing series of adjectives.

[…] It’s once again time for In My Kitchen and as per usual this is a collection of things from the past month — a small snippet of those seen over on Instagram — in loosely interpreted categories and no particular order. So utterly thrilled that the IMK community were able to contribute to Kim getting her stove. You have the biggest heart of anyone I know, Celia – thank you for alerting us to their plight. I love the spirit of community that you have fostered and this is also evident in your post – receiving and giving gifts – all look fabulous! Those tarts have my name on them as does your cocktail. Love the lychees and the enamel plates too. 50 of your chocolates would make anyone happy to have hit that milestone! Well, I’m back from an amazing time in Cape Town and have finally managed to get my IMK post together. I had some sort of idyllic notion of me lounging by the pool and writing this post. It was just such a social whirlwind that I got nothing done and only lounged by the pool once when the house was being photographed! Here is my post – https://selmastable.wordpress.com/2015/03/09/in-my-kitchen-march-2015/
I’m envying you those Turkish goodies!
