This month’s IN MY KITCHEN is now closed!
Please join us again in October! ♥
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a new porcelain tea bowl, handcrafted by Steve Sheridan in the Blue Mountains. It’s a magnificent gift from my sisters (in-law), Kate and Penny. I sip fennel tea from it every morning…
Whereas the one Pete bought me last month had a frog inside the bowl, this one has a turtle. It’s hard to see in the photo, but the back is delicately etched with hexagons to resemble a real turtle shell…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is one of Beth’s ethically pasture raised chickens. It took me a few days to track down, but it was worth the effort…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…are two bags of Amedei chocolate callets, purchased from my friend Tania at Lario International. They’re essential for our World Peace Cookies…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a large batch of spritz cookies for my mum – they’re her favourite…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…was a humungous basket of fruit and veg, an extremely generous gift from the wonderful Liz and Peter of Bizzy Lizzy’s Good Things…
Thank you so much, Lizzy and Peter!
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is an adorable posy of little flowers from my lovely neighbours Jane and Bernie…
…and another from darling Penny and Kate. Both bunches were created and delivered by our clever friends at Little Flowers Sydney…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…I’ve been making sourdough bagels. Each one is boiled (“kettled”) before baking…
I had one for breakfast, topped with pan fried mushrooms, jamon and edamame…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is my weekend coffee fix – a double decaf macchiato with one sugar and a giant Nancy ice cube. Made with our Nespresso machine using EcoCaffe’s 100% biodegradable Decaf Supreme pods…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…there has been quite a lot of comfort food, including a recent batch of Römertopf beef and barley stoup…
…and a wickedly good Thai red duck curry…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…was a huge batch of doughnuts. We made 65 in total, and they were all devoured the same day. We had a lot of help from friends and neighbours…
. . . . .
Finally, in my kitchen…is me! Wearing my new bargain priced progressive glasses (that’s multi-focals to us old people), bought online from Zenni Optical. Zenni have an interface that lets you upload a photo and then try thousands of pairs of glasses on. It’s great fun if nothing else!
My multifocals ended up costing me just A$110 delivered. The lenses aren’t quite as high quality as my (much) more expensive pair, but they’re perfectly fine and the frames are very comfortable to wear. Thanks for the headsup, Valentina!
. . . . .
Tell me, what’s happening in your kitchen this month?

Those doughnuts and bagels look phenomenal! I love how you give your readers an insight as to what is in your kitchen, very creative.
Thank you! :)
I don’t know what to comment about… the duck curry made my heart literally miss a couple of beats… I want it, I want it, I want it! Then the doughnuts almost took me to a full cardiac arrest…
everything is wonderful this month, but your glasses are SOOOO stylish you look superb with them!
Sally, choosing the glasses was a hoot – we sat around and everyone just spend the evening laughing at me.. :D
So much love in your kitchen Celia, always so many wonderful things. I don’t have much to share this month but my post will be up and running in the morning.
I adore your new glasses – what a clever way of going through loads of frames to decide which you want.
Have a beautiful day.
:-) Mandy xo
Mandy, it was great fun too! Hope all is well with you and Pete! xxx
WOW! I should say this at first, I loved your photographs, especially fruits and vegetables… they are so beautiful. Thank you dear Celia, have a nice and enjoyable time in your lovely kitchen, love, nia
Nia, thank you! The fruit and veg basket was such a huge treat, Lizzy is incredibly generous!
Lovely things in your kitchen! The fruit and veggie basket is amazing! Gorgeous flowers. The cookies, doughnuts, and bagels have me drooling. I would love some doughnuts now. Enjoy your week!
Hello lovely, hope all is well in BC, particularly with the new bubba! x
Celia, I love your bowls. They are just so wonderful, what a delight. I am very envious of your well brought up chooks. It is getting harder and harder to find quality chicken here. Your donuts look fabulous I can’t believe how many you made. I bought one today and ate it :)
Here is my post for the month. All the best to you and your family.
Cheers
http://passionfruitgarden.com/2015/08/31/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
Glenda, I ate three doughnuts, the rest were shared around. Honest! :) Small Man did manage seven on his own though.. :)
Currently in my kitchen is a mess as I juggle making potato peperonata for tea, along with a sourdough chocolate cake, and preparing mangoes for freezing.
Your tea bowl is beautiful, and I will be making that beef and barley soup as it is getting colder by the day here in the UK.
Lots of love in your kitchen Celia, and very well deserved.
Thanks Kim! Sourdough chocolate cake! That sounds intriguing! Hope you’re having a wonderful month.. xx
It is actually delicious – declared the best by my niece. I will email the recipe if you would like it.
Thanks Kim – can I let you know? I’ve got a backlog of new recipes to try and the moment! :)
Certainly Celia.
Love the glasses your too cute!
hehehe…thank you! So many of the other frames made me look like a nutter.. :)
Beautiful you! So many lovely things in your kitchen.
I’ve got a whole wheat sourdough experiment rising in the kitchen. I’m trying to get more fiber into the bread. It’s a slooow riser. Hugs, Maz.
You know, I’ve never been a fan of whole wheat (we call it wholemeal here). Just don’t love the flavour. More fibre is an admirable goal though – I hope it worked well for you! xx
It turned okay, in my opinion, not nearly as moreish as reg. sourdough. The hub and friends loved it so I’m going to try again with added rye and wheat germ. Onward! Maz.
So many lovely things and you deserve each and every one! Beautiful cup, it woud be a pleasure to drink out of it. And we have almost identical specs :) Just made soda bread as I was (panic, panic) breadless and dinner time is coming round and it was a quick solution!
Snap! We could be twins! :) I’m sipping out of my cup now as I type. Lots of love to you and T xx
I’m eyeing those bags of Amedei chocolate callets! Time to work on my In My Kitchen. Can’t believe it is September already!
Cass, it comes around quickly, doesn’t it! :)
Another wonderful tumble of a post Ms Celia. Excellent share on those glasses by the way :)
Fran, the glasses are just so cheap – my last multis cost me about $700! :)
Cheers for that Celia. Stevie-boy is pretending not to need glasses. I know he does and now I know how to save money as well. $700?! I hope they had gold rims! ;)
[…] Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to have a look around. I’m popping over to Celia’s and other bloggers to have a look around their kitchens – it’s such a privilege to be […]
I’m loving those doughnuts Celia, I might have to make some as well! And what a lovely gift from your sisters-in law, simply stunning. Nothing better than a cup of tea on a cold day – we have been having few of these over here in the UK and you can feel the change in the air. Here is my post this month x
http://www.milktoastandhoney.co.uk/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
Ania, as you head into Autumn, we’re just starting Spring! I adore my tea bowl, I’m sipping out of it now! xx
OOh homemade doughnuts. And the bagels, I love that you make your own, I am so lazy when it comes to baking kind of recipes.
Hi Celia, Here is my IMK post – I am doing Vegan Mofo, so its a very vegan IMK post
http://allotment2kitchen.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/vegan-month-in-my-kitchen.html
Shaheen, the bagels take quite a lot of work, so I don’t make them all the time. They’re great fun though! Hope all is well on your side of the planet! :)
Your kitchen (as always) is a place of love Celia. Fennel tea? Do you brew it yourself or is it packaged? Love to you xxx
Hello lovely. I buy Turkish fennel tea in bags, and it’s divine..
What a lovely welcoming kitchen this month. Will have to try those bagels! My post is up https://napolirestaurantalert.wordpress.com/2015/09/01/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
Thanks Josephine! :)
The color of those tea cups is gorgeous! Fennel tea sounds interesting, do you dry the fennel yourself or use fennel seeds? The donuts made my mouth water, I bet they are wonderful with tea.
The glasses are very stylish!
Here is my post;https://spadesspatulasandspoons.wordpress.com/2015/08/31/september-2015-in-my-kitchen/
Liz, as I mentioned above, I buy the fennel tea in bags from Turkey. It’s delicious! I probably should try making my own, but this is very gentle and not overly aniseedy…
Love, love that celadon tea bowl. Everything looks delicious as usual Celia.xx
Ardys, thank you. I’m very smitten with it too!
Full to the brim of good things especially the beef and barley soup and Duck curries caught my eye….and doughnuts? Yum!
Very, very happy with how the duck curry turned out! It was a winner! :)
What a jam-packed kitchen you have. Your tea bowl is gorgeous. That colour! I’ve been baking (and boiling) batches and batches of your sourdough bagels (another on the go today, as a matter of fact). My family won’t go a week without a batch.
Nice specs. The really suit you.
Here’s mine: http://milk-and.blogspot.com.au/2015/09/in-my-kitchen-september-2015.html
Jen, I’m SO happy to hear that! I find the bagels take a bit of work – so impressed you’re doing it weekly! :)
I’m curious how much that chicken set you back? Here, it’s at least 3X as expensive as normal chicken but it’s worth it. You have a lot of beautiful things in your kitchen this month, I do love the tea cup, so special with the turtle at the bottom. The glasses look adorable on you. We have a Vancouver company that does on line glasses called Clearly Contacts (they do regular glasses too).
Eva, it was about $30. I can get a decent free range one (in barn with access to outdoors) for $17, and no idea how much a battery chook costs these days! I try to buy one of Beth’s birds a month to support all the good work they do, but I can’t really afford it every week. Their poultry really do have amazing lives though – they spend all their days roaming in open fields! :)
I just adore your tea cups – I like the colour, the shape and the little animals in the bottom. What gorgeous gifts!
Also, thanks for the tip re the specs. I have looked at online suppliers for glasses, but all the ones I’ve seen don’t offer multi-focals (like you, I’m old). I’ll be checking this lot out.
I so love the tea bowls, Amanda. I’ve decided if I ever need to send a huge bunch of flowers, I’ll think about sending one of these instead. Same money, longer lasting gift! The specs are cool! :)
Celia, your glasses are fab, darling…. how do they know your prescription? Love the bowl with the sweet little turtle in the base… the doughnuts look delicious… I made some too at the weekend and plan to perfect the recipe before writing about it. Your little biscuits look tasty too. I bet your mum loves them! Peter and I were so delighted that the basket was a help, truly, it was the least we could do from afar. xxxx
As a post script darling, here is my snippet http://www.bizzylizzysgoodthings.com/blog/in-my-kitchen-september-2015
Lizzy, you enter your prescription in when you order, it’s very easy! Thank you again for your incredible generosity, lovely xxx
Love your kitchen, Celia. Your cup looks so beautiful; thank you for the link.
Thanks Elaine! Hope you’re well! x
I love everything in your kitchen this month, Celia. The celadon tea cups are beautiful. And what a gorgeous basket of goodies from the very generous bizzylizzy. I love the sound of the pasture-raised chook – I tried clicking on the link from your Hainanese chicken post to see if they are available in Qld but either the link is broken or Beth’s website is down. And thanks for the great heads-up about the cheap glasses!
Chris, sorry you can’t get hold of Beth’s chooks, they really are the bomb. I hope you find something just as good in Qld! x
I love the tea bowl, gorgeous. The biscuit and donuts are great. I still say someday I’ll make donuts and bagels too. I’ll get my post up tomorrow hopefully, one of the items would be great for bagels!
Gretchen, the bagels take a bit of work, but the doughnuts are really very easy. I think your boys would love them!!
Celia, I’m glad you’re feeling sufficiently taken care of (as you SO well deserve!) It’s amazing how brief the turnaround time is before you’re off and taking care of others as a result! (Most notably that huge batch of spritz cookies for your Mum — bet she loved ’em and your kitchen thoughtfulness!) Sometimes all it takes is a boost from the folks who love and support you — that’s what IMK has meant to me. xo! (Sept. post link coming soon… possibly even ahead o’ here, woohoo!)
Happy September lovely Kim! It’s always a special joy to peek into your kitchen, you know that, right? :)
Yes ma’am! ;) (And thank you.) I’m just now getting ’round to September IMK commenting (better late than never) and I love peeking into everybody else’s kitchens, too. You’re an instigator of JOY, Celia! Thanks for all you do, xo.
Here I am with my September post link: http://justalittlepiece.com/just-a-little-in-my-kitchen-this-september/
I’m not surprised you had a little help from your friends in devouring the donuts – I would have been first in the queue.
Your glasses are an absolute bargain – Mum told be her progressives cost her $800 so I took her to the glasses market here and she had a pair made for $100. Why are they so expensive in Australia?
Fennel tea? I like T2’s Licorice Tea I imagine it’s not too far off in flavour?
My post is up https://www.plusatesix.com/2015/09/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
Nancy, I can’t drink licorice tea – it gets too sweet for me. The fennel tea isn’t sweet at all. I really have no idea why specs are so exy here, $100 is amazingly cheap!
Glad to hear that the big batch of doughnuts was shared.Soup n the Romertopf – must give that a go. I also like those little bowls/teacups: hard to resist little teacups, one of life’s small pleasures.
Fra, it’s a big tea cup – it probably holds 250ml? Lovely and rounded, for cupping with both hands! :)
The specs got my attention too. I’m not ready yet for another pair yet but I was wondering about buying them online.
Mmm duck curry and donuts… could not be more tempting, and the soup simply looks wonderful and nourishing. Amazing colourful delicious IMK month :)
Thanks lovely ED! The specs are great fun to choose! I’m a bit partial to duck curry… :)
That cup is just beautiful – so much effort has gone into that craftsmanship. And what a beautiful and bountiful basket from Liz. Here is my post to link up: http://goodfoodweek.com.au/2015/09/life-whats-in-my-kitchen-4/ {I’ve just moved from Blogger to WordPress and I couldn’t be happier with the end product}.
Shari, thanks! Great move – I love WordPress and I’ve now been with them for years. They have very good support as well if you ever need help!
I hope you and yours are doing OK lovely, comfort food is exactly what’s neededjust now. Your goodies look great, especially those donuts. I bought a donut maker the other day but haven’t figured out how to use it yet :) xo
We’re fine, thanks Becca! Hope you and your lovely tribe are all well! xx
Maybe I should have tried an online trying on glasses instead of rushing into the opticians to pick the cheapest I could find, which on reflection have just the merest hint of Dame Edna about them!
I can just see you in cats-eye glasses. Maybe you could IG a photo for us? :)
The subtle tone of those cups and craftmanship is beautiful. Feel relaxed just looking at them. Don’t you just love how much better ethically raised poultry looks let alone tastes! Oh those cookies, (somewhere I have a cookie press just waiting to be unleashed) lots of love gone into those for your mum. Doughnuts, mmmm. Do yours keep well? I find if not eaten soon after making they go stodge. Cute glasses, It’s a great site isn’t it? Hardest bit for me is finding a photo I feel is acceptable. :)
Maree, they doughnuts aren’t much good the next day, so I try to make sure to give them away as fast as we can! :D

Hey, sweet Celia! My IMK post is up ‘n’ running here: http://alittlelunch.com/2015/09/01/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
LOVE that photo of you in your new specs! I get mine at Zenni Optical, too — such a great way to buy glasses of the non-serving sort. :)
Kim, they were my first buy from Zenni, and I was so impressed. So much cheaper! x
Celia, I was impressed with Zenni, too! My prior glasses — fancy schmancy frames, etc. & “mega-bucks” at the optometrist’s office — ended up at the bottom of our lake: http://alittlelunch.com/2013/06/27/sailing-sailing-and-a-boating-accident/ (There’s always a story, lol…) Zenni provided an affordable solution (a couple of years ago) but I still LOVE ‘EM!!! Remind me to order another “fun” pair soon — although I recently passed my driver’s license renewal and DON’T NEED GLASSES. (Woohoo!) However, I still like the “look” — and you look DIVINE in yours! xo :)
I love that little turtle in that gorgeous cup and your glasses look fab! But best of all, is your great big smile :) happy IMK xx
Thanks darling! Have a glorious September! xx
And you xx
Hi Celia,
Remember me from the WLDG Sunday chats quite some time ago? Next two weeks (8-17 Sept) I’ll be in Melbourne for a conference and some winery visits. You don’t happen to be there at that time? If so we should meet! Not much chance, I realize, but I felt I should ask.
cheers,
Anders Källberg, Sweden,
Anders, how good to hear from you!! How have you been? I’m so sorry, but won’t be in Melbourne, bit too much happening here with Small Man’s end of school exams. Hope you’ve been well though! xx
Celia, too bad we will not be able to meet, but it was a far shot. I might come back in a couple of years with my wife, who could not join me on this trip. If so we’ll have to arrange a meeting, hopefully also with DLo. All’s fine with me here. One grandchild, soon three years old, who is the sweetest girl on earth! ;-)
[…] new month brings another In My Kitchen post. Thanks to Celia over at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting this monthly event. As I said it’s been a hectic month but we’ve had a bit […]
That is a beautiful mug – i love the colors and the little turtle inside is adorable. I had one very similar to that but alas, it met with the tile floor :(
I’m so glad that you’re surrounding by so many beautiful flowers and comfort food. It makes me happy that you are surrounding by such caring and loving friends.
Looking good in those new specs Celia! I’d heard about this website where you can try glasses on & I’ll have to check it out. I’m way overdue for a new look although at least my prescription for lenses hasn’t changed.
Di, I was desperate for a spare pair of glasses, it’s good to have one now. I’m wearing the “spares” more than the original $700 pair! :)
You always have such gorgeous things in your kitchen, Celia! I am quite jealous! I love the cup and that Thai red duck curry looks divine. Duck was one of my favourite foods to eat out in Korea. I will need to find a good duck restaurant here in Ireland now.
Maggie, you might need to learn to roast your own! :)
I agree, Celia! I just published my IMK. Hope you like it, and sorry for not being able to participate the last two months.
http://spooninasaucepan.com/2015/09/07/in-my-kitchen-between-three-places-september-2015/
Your kitchen is vibrant and full of goodness as always Celia. I can only imagine that your Mum would have loved those biscuits…home-made biscuits just make the world feel better don’t they? You have reminded me that I need to make your bagels again. Soup, curry and donuts…I will have a serve of each please!
Thank you for hosting our kitchens Celia. Sending you love, good wishes and happy baking x (my post is linked)
Jane, I thought of you as I was making those bagels – on my own, in the kitchen at the crack of dawn. I couldn’t decide if I preferred the peace and quiet, or whether I should wake up another pair of helping hands. In the end, I stuck with the quiet. :)
So many lovely things in your kitchen this month! The mushrooms look delicious. The spritz cookies and donut looks amazing. Nice glasses they really suit you. My IMK post is up as well head on over to http://cookswithevie.com
Thank you for hosting, it is such fun!
Thanks Lori! Have a great month!
Lots of wonderful things Celia – a basket of fruit and veg is a wonderful thing when times are hard aren’t they – I had a friend send me one and it was a godsend. Love, love, love the idea of being able to see yourself trying on glasses – I wear glasses too and find it hard to see properly when trying on hundreds in a shop!! Genius!!
Here’s my IMK post – thanks again for doing this great, fun series :) Jan x
http://agluttonouswife.blogspot.com.au/2015/09/in-my-kitchen-september-2015.html
Jan, the Zenni site is great fun if nothing else. I think you’d enjoy it! :)
There sure is a lot of baking and cooking going on in your kitchen, Celia. I do love the cup with the turtle at the bottom of it – so cute. And that duck curry looks really good. I love the homemade bagels and your breakfast with all the mushrooms looks amazing. And that basket of fruit from Pete and Lizzy is stunning xx
Hi lovely, hope you’re well! I’m very smitten with my turtle cup!
I’m glad you’ve had kind thoughts through flowers and fruit/vegetables – all look amazing. The top cup/ bowl is gorgeous and the biscuits your Mum likes deserve to be her favourite!
My IMK post is up at http://www.bitesizedthoughts.com/2015/09/in-my-kitchen-september-2015.html
Thanks Kari! Mum really does love the cookies – lucky each batch makes over 100!
I like that the basket has bitter melon :) love bitter melon but hubby refuses to eat it.
I confess to passing the bitter melon to Mum. I don’t know how to cook it, but I don’t mind eating it, although Pete’s not a fan! :)
Hi Celia. If you’re after another pair of cheap glasses you should check out Dresden on south King St in Newtown. $50/pair! I must say that a friend owns the shop so I am biased :-)
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
Oh what a soul soothing collection to have in your kitchen. You can sip your tea while admiring the bouquets and dream about chocolate cookies. Just about that time, you can savor a bowl of soup or curry to let all the blessings settle deep into your bones before reaching over and popping one of the donuts on your plate to linger in dessert. Then, it would be about time for more tea …
Judy, you describe it so well. I’d quite like life to be like that! :)
I am glad to see lots of lovely comforting items on your post – lovely gifts of fruit and flowers, very tempting doughnuts and bagels and of course chocolate! And online glasses – whatever next! Hope you and your family are doing ok.

Vicki, thank you lovely, yes, we’re good. Spring has sprung and the sun is out and everything is ok.
Just posted my contribution this month! Happy to join this fun party!
Hi Celia! That tea bowl is divine. I love beautiful tea cups… something about them makes the tea a real occasion. I’m loving the look of the sourdough bagels and the doughnuts… lots of yumminess there, although there always seems to be something delicious happening in your kitchen.
The fruit and the flowers look beautiful. Happy start of Spring to you dear! x

I will. Thanks, Celia. Hope everything is okay with you as well. xx
Hi, Celia. My post is up: https://thenotsocreativecook.wordpress.com/2015/09/07/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/ Thanks a lot. Hugs!
How cute is that turtle mug? I adore turtles :) And that’s so nice of Liz – she’s such a generous lady!
Here is my entry for this month :) Thanks Celia!

Giulia, Lizzy really is incredibly generous, we were very grateful for so much food at a time when it was hard for us to shop!
Love the 65 donuts eaten in a day! I’ve really enjoyed making my own filled donuts in the past but after the second batch is frying I start getting all bored and impatient (and eating the previous batch as a boredom reliever). I love those Steve Sheridan bowls! Here’s my entry for this month: http://www.veganopoulous.com/2015/09/05/in-my-kitchen-september-2015/
Thanks Faye! The doughnuts get eaten as fast as they’re made here. :)

My post is here, if you have time to add it to your list. It is a post for Winter rather than just one month.
