The In My Kitchen gathering is on hiatus at the moment, as our lovely host Maureen concentrates on getting herself well. She’ll be back on the job in September and we wish her all the best for a speedy and complete recovery!
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…are treasures from San Francisco! We spent July there with our beloved friends Dan and Patrick and have only just arrived back, so please excuse this slightly jetlag-addled post. Lots of photos to follow soon!
I brought back kosher salt and French Fleur de Sel de Camargue…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…are fridge magnets from Piedmont and Alcatraz…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is gum from the fabulous Powell’s Sweet Shoppe and a new red Moleskine notebook. I’ve developed a love for journaling while on holidays…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a superb new UE bluetooth speaker from Costco, San Francisco. They have them here too! Wonderful music quality and it fits neatly into a nook on the bench…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is the best bread knife I’ve ever used, a Victorinox Fibrox Ergonomic 26cm. It cuts through a crusty sourdough loaf with ease…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a mountain of flour. I’d let supplies dwindle down before we left, but made a quick trip to Southern Cross Supplies the day after we landed back in Sydney…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is yesterday’s bake of sourdough loaves and focaccia. Monkey Girl took very good care of Priscilla while we were away…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…are Starbucks’ You Are Here mugs from San Francisco and Los Angeles. We brought a few back as souvenirs!
. . . . .
And soon to be in my kitchen (hopefully)…
…will be scones for International Scone Week! Pop over to Tandy’s blog to find out more. Here are mine from 2015 – I’d better get baking for this year…

Tell me, what’s happening in your kitchen this month?
Lovely souvenirs and treasures in your kitchen. Sounds like you had a marvelous time! You definitely deserved a holiday.
We just got back yesterday from a family vacation, so not much in my kitchen but a bit of a mess at the moment. Lol I will be doing some canning this coming week though. Tomato soup, mixed pickled vegetables, and tomatoes and beets are on the to can list for this week. I also have quite a bit of kale that needs to be frozen and bread to be baked. Enjoy your week!
I ‘m glad you liked San Franisco , it’s one of my favorite cities and I only live an hour away. Did you make it to Santa Cruz? I am looking for a good bread knife, thanks for the tip.
You were right next door and I didn’t now! Glad you had a lovely time. Your fridge magnets are very classy. I will have to look for that speaker, it would be lovely to have music in the kitchen. And you got right back into baking, you must have been jet lagged and up in the middle of the night. Welcome home.
haha, LOVED all your fridge magnets!! So glad you had fun, it is one of my most favourite cities.
Glad I read this now, I almost forgot about international scone week! Such fun loot from your trip.
Glad to see you safely home and baking madly again. I loved following your trip!
Oh I love all your loot from your trip – I’m headed to San Francisco next month and LA! I need some of that kosher salt in my life! Welcome home!
Great to hear that you enjoyed San Francisco. Loved your photos and comments. Great sights, people, produce, food….
Wonderful! So many cool things from your stay in SF… lovely!
I am hoping to join this month, but haven’t composed a post yet, maybe I can get one in before it’s too late….
Welcome home!
Arr, she said, as she waved her wooden leg. Welcome home me lovey. I imagine you are experiencing two kinds of feeling- nice to be home, make bread and so one, but wishing that you were still on holidays, where are the slaves?
. Those Vitorinox knives are great- I have a couple too. That is a serious stack of flour.
Well, it’s a short lift ride down to the tropical fruit laden breakfast table here in Hue, Vietnam. Take care my friend.
Glad to see some goodies managed to wing their way back with you. I have that same Fleur de Sel and use it like it’s gold. The item I am most thrilled about is your blue tooth speaker. This is where shopping in a huge consumer nation really comes into its own. Well done. xxx
ps: Go HIllary!
We are going to Canada and the States in October – I have to get some of those fridge magnets and the gum packet – I love it. I’ve always been intrigued by Kosher salt and wondered what it is – apart from salt that is. A big part of the joy of travel is Windows into different cultures via food; I’m so looking forward to that. I have a small blue tooth speaker too which I love; it’s great for kitchen dancing – apart from music I also listen to podcasts of the BBC 4 Food Programme – they have some really interesting topics. Happy homecoming Celia.
I wish I could buy spelt flour in bags like that! I was wondering who was feeding Priscilla – glad Monkey Girl had the situation under control :)
So glad you had a great time and a nice break. Your journeys looked so much fun. Welcome back. Straight into it Celia!. xx
I love, love your ” In my kitchen”, love the bread knife.
I enjoyed seeing your posts of the trip, love… that salt is exquisite!
Looks like you had fun shopping in San Fran – I love the fridge magnets and am in admiration of the flour supply and I will be thinking about what scones to bring to ISW
Lovely to have you back and to see the souvenirs you bought back with you! Love those magnets and the gum 😀
You clearly made good use of the chance to shop in California! I like your magnets, and I recall having a knife like that years ago. Good luck with baking and thanks for sharing your kitchen!
I shared mine here:

Excellent souvenirs ☄Lovely memories later when you use them at home… I’m tucking odd & ends into nooks & crannies!
I have close to 90 fridge magnets from all over the world. Love how colourful it makes my fridge and brings back memories too. MUST go buy that bread knife, mine is rubbish.
Wonderful! Welcome back Celia! :-)
haha, love that magnet! And thanks for posting about the bread knife. We need a new one. Thanks for the link love and look forward to your scone recipe xxx

Yes I am keen on that bread knife too. Cutting crusty bread takes me forever:)
Btw I did read that kosher salt is not very good for you. Something about it being treated or having additives. :)
I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday – I’m looking forward to reading about it!
Oh- scones.
Oh, scones. I should make some of those. I love all the flour and bread and the knife and well, your entire post, and you! Glad you had a good time in California, Celia!
Wishing Maureen a speedy recovery. I saw the French Fleur de Sel de Camargue when I was in Brittany on holiday and never got round to picking it up. Love your magnets and those scones are high rising
You can tell how good the vacation by the souvenirs brought back. People having a miserable time never want to have anything to remind them of it. WIth that rationale, I’d say you had a fantastic time. San Francisco is such a wonderful place to visit. Welcome home!
I must get myself some of those Victorinox knives – they’re great for bread, tomatoes and all those tricky foods that a flat blade knife just won’t chop :) Sounds like you had a lovely time in the USA by some of your goodies you brought back :) Can’t wait to see more holiday snaps.

Lovely souvenirs! I love the pirate magnet :)
I have one of those UE booms – fabulous aren’t they! Mr Fork hates it because I usually turn it on via the app on my device so it gives him a scare when it wakes up (although he does love music so he doesn’t stay mad for too long).
That’s quite a flour collection… and I’m glad to hear about the bread knife, as I’ve been hunting for recommendations for a new one myself.
