In my kitchen…
…are wonderful handmade cards from young friends…

In my kitchen…
…are thimbles cobbled together from leather scrap. I don’t like using a lame to hold my razor blades, but I was cutting my fingers to shreds as a result. These were simple to make and work well…

In my kitchen…
…is a craft kit from Reverse Garbage…
My first projects were little sequined bags and a couple of god’s eye weavings – does anyone else remember learning this traditional Mexican Indian craft at school?
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…are chocolate coated glacé fruit – Buderim ginger and crystallised lime…
I gave my sister-in-law Penny a tempering lesson, then sent her home with a starter pack. She bought bags of Callebaut 811 from Costco during her visit…

In my kitchen…
…is another Costco find…
We’ve been taking turns leafing through this fabulous picture book. It has over 2,500 stunning photos and illustrations…

In my kitchen…
…is a little Japanese tea set, which I brought back from San Francisco…

Tell me, what’s happening in your kitchen?
If you’d like to write an In My Kitchen post, please do so by the 10th October and send your link to our new host, Liz of Bizzy Lizzy’s Good Things. Thanks for hosting Liz! x
Interesting things in your kitchen. The fossil is well preserved. The cards are so sweet and thoughtful. The leather thimbles certainly are versatile! I remember making the same art project in school and also made it with my children. We had several decorating various rooms in the house. I wonder what you will do with the anchor and mini clothes pegs? Have fun with your projects!
What fun! I’ve been making seed and dried fruit bars for the hub. He’s cleaned up his diet and lost fifty pounds. I’ve been doing a lot of veggie and salad prep. Not a lot of baking around here but looking forward to soup weather. Hugs, Maz
I love those hand made cards and the chocolate coated gems look really good. I swooned a bit about the crafty things. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to do more. I’ve never done that weaving but it’s really pretty.
Ouchies. Poor little fingertips, Celia. Loving your choc coated ginger. And that fossil. Amazing!
Celia, thank you for asking me to host IMK, it’s my great pleasure. I am looking forward to the fun. xxx
*Saturday smile* Oh, love that perfect shrimp fossil!!! And with my passion for Japanese [especially Kyoto-style] pottery would just love to be closer to these teacups . . . smile at the lovely note: these ‘bread-and-butter’ ones were the first I was taught to write as a young migrant girl new to Australia . . . glad it is not a ‘lost art’!
Dearest Celia, thanks to Pricilla you had sent me some many month ago, I am getting more and more creative, making sour dough bread almost every weekend. It has become kind of a friday evening meditation for me, so this weekend I am baking sour dough bread filled with greek olives and dried oranges with a handful sprinkled of Majoran. What do you think of that. Thank you ever for my kitchen buddy Pricilla.
Have you made a safety-storage non-ouch pack for your razor blades? They always frighten me in the kitchen drawer. I remember making the eyes of God with my girls – I think we called them hojo de dios. Chocolate dipped glacé peel and fruit is my absolute favourite.
It’s always lovely to see what’s happening in your life of which the kitchen seems to be both hub and oasis of food, fun and creativity 🏝
Love that Japanese tea set. Also a very good idea using little leather scraps for thimbles. My fear has deterred me from using a razor blade for slashing- now I know what to do.
What lovely things you have in your kitchen Celia. We just got back from Europe and I brought back a lot of lovely things…just need to organize for a post.
Your focaccia looks delicious! I have yet to make them, but feel tempted now. I will also be attempting sourdough bread making again this month. Have you ever thought about using a retractable Stanley knife or crafting blade to score your loaves. It might be less hazardous than razor blades, as your fingers are well out of the way…just a thought.
Such beautiful things in your kitchen this month – I’d love to try that ginger.
Happy October Celia. Always flabbergasted by your industry and ingenuity. I have some of those shrimp fossils from Lebanon and love them. That Japanese tea set is exquisite.
So many fabulous goings on I your kitchen. That fossil is amazing! My kitchen is currently not in my kitchen but waiting to be installed in about 10 days. Meanwhile we’re sort of camping and cooking. We also have a bath in our sitting room so big changes are afoot!
[…] thanks to Celia, Maureen and Bizzy Lizzy (our newest hostess with the mostest) for sharing your immutable, affable […]
Gorgeous tea set celia and you know I love a fossil. How clever and crafty you are. Wish I had your touch! Isn’t it nice to be back doing IMK and catching up with folk.
Every time I see focaccia in your kitchen, I am inspired to whip some up so have just pulled Audrey II out again. As for the chocolate ginger – I couldn’t stand it when I was a kid but now I love it. Who says adults can’t change their tastes? xxx
Just love the Japanese tea set Celia. What an amazing fossil find and as always amazing bread in your kitchen :)
Loving your gorgeous Japanese tea cups Celia, they add beauty to any dinner party :) My nephews would love that fossil, they’re right into dinosaurs and fossils at the moment. Great idea on your thumb & finger protectors for slicing your sourdough. Lovely seeing you again for IMK xx

Chocolate-dipped dry fruit and ginger must taste wonderful! You have lots of good things to share in your kitchen this month. I have only a few as I just returned from a trip… http://maefood.blogspot.com/2016/10/in-my-kitchen-october-2016.html
What a beautiful Japanese tea set. I just love homemade cards and those are lovely. I haven’t seen the chocolate at our Costco, I’ll have to check again sometime. It could be dangerous if I found it though!
So many lovely things in your kitchen Celia. I think of the kitchen as the heart of the home – your home must be the most delightful place to be based on your kitchen :) The tea cups are beautiful, and your bread is looking uber edible. Those thank you cards are just beautiful… I love that way small people draw… there is something very raw about it x
What beautiful cards. I give bread for the love of it, but it’s so nice to have a little card in appreciation. Those thimbles are amazing! I use a lame, but sometimes I wonder about the curve of the blade… You chocolate looks divine! I really must try it, but honestly I’m quite intimidated by the thought of it. That starter pack is a lovely gift, maybe I should visit costco for the first time to pick up some chocolate.
What a special kitchen!
Celia, our lil’ buddy (tree frog) is pictured on the left-hand page of your fabulous picture book. (The small chartreuse green one at the bottom.) It’s about time for him to go into hibernation — getting cooler here — but we love seeing him “stick” to our dining room window and climb about. So cute! As are your greeting cards, crafty creations, and swoon-worthy focaccias and chocolates. xo
