Sometimes, rescuing small things and giving them a new life is even more rewarding that a larger project, because you get to see the results very quickly!
I picked up the top half of an Indian silk jacket from the $1 bin at Sewing Basket Balmain…
It became a long-strapped tote for my friend Dotti…
This particular set of welding gloves were faulty – the heat went straight through the fingers, making them of limited use as oven mitts. But the leather was glorious and thick, so I’ve been using it for patches and to make safety guards for my thread snips…
The end of a vintage roll of Japanese silk that I picked up from Cash Palace Emporium years ago was printed with manufacturer’s markings. I know from past experience that these wash out, so I couldn’t use the piece for clothing (not that I make clothing). Instead, I made a tiny bag for my crochet hooks. The West German (as it was labelled) satin ribbon was from a roll I picked up from Reverse Garbage…
And finally, I turned some rescued broder embroidery cotton into a dishcloth…
It was nice to have all my baby phoenix projects on the dining table at the one time! What have you been working on lately? ♥
I am almost finished knitting an Elizabeth Zimmerman Adult Baby Surprise Jacket requested by my daughter. It is using left over wool in my stash.
I love that you kept mfg markings on the hook package. That was great.
After 8 years, I’ve returned to a Long Dog Sampler, Le Jardin de Plaisir. It was a work I started when my dear mum-in-law was in hospital. Obviously, my first task was to undo a number of stitches – normal task for my projects, but I’m determined to finish it as it’s so beautiful and will remind me of Buci.
I’ve been embroidering patches and making masks. I’m also learning how to make tortillas from masa. They puff up like a balloon if you do them right. Delish! Love all your sewing accessories! Hugs, Maz.
Love seeing your phoenix projects, Celia, no matter how tiny! Thanks for sharing! I’ve been darning holey socks and knitting hats for impending babies. Cheers, Sally at One Family, One Planet blog
I’ve been knitting dishcloths from rescued crochet cotton. I have also been teaching my daughter to sew bowl cozies with scraps of fabric, most our own but some from the scrap shelf at our wonderful Sewing Lair op shop. It’s great fun to mix and match the two sides of the cozy.
All excellent projects. It’s great to be able to give something second life 😀
Celia – I have been darning again – thanks to your tutorial – it is so satisfying to keep my jumpers from falling apart! Thank you!
Love the tote bag! Have you been making masks? They are all the rage down in Melbourne :-)
