Our third little Christmas g1veaway is this handpainted Turkish bowl. It’s only very small – I took a photo of it in my hand so you could see just how little it is – and I have no idea how I’m going to post it.
I’ve bought a few pieces from Metin since discovering his stall earlier this year, and I find the colours and designs incredibly appealing. As they’re all handmade, no two pieces are exactly the same. The glaze is foodsafe, but not suitable for either the microwave or dishwasher. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t put hot food in it either, I tend to use mine for olives or nuts. Most of the time I just look at it and hold it in my hands – it’s very tactile! I have one of these bowls to g1ve away.
A note to Sydneysiders – Metin will be at Orange Grove markets in Rozelle this Saturday 11th December, and he and his wife Moya have also opened a temporary store in Crows Nest.

That bowl is lovely!
Oh Celia, I absolutely love little bowls and the likes and your bowl is what I would call nunu! So cute!
Oh how lovely! I can see how this might brighten up your day :)
What a beautiful little bowl! I’m not entering the giveaway, it would be too difficult to mail it here. But I think it’s perfectly adorable. I have a hand-made wooden spoon that is hand-painted, this bowl reminds me of it. The designs are even similar!
What a tiny gem…just gorgeous!
That’s an adorable bowl. Love that green and the size is perfect for many things – even to put rings and earrings in. Lucky you to have such an interesting store nearby. Adios.
…and there I was hoping for a koala, not that I don’t like a beautiful bowl, she said hastily….. I think I’d like the egg slicer after all, have realised that Him Indoors can’t slice the top off an egg, how have I missed that (hee hee)…. x
That’s a gorgeous little bowl Celia. Now, I wish I was in Sydney more often so I could check out more of Metin’s work.
Celia that is a gorgeous little bowl. I could imagine all manner of lovely goodies going in there. Dark chocolate sultana clusters is springing to mind!
What a beautiful little bowl – gorgeous colours….I ♥ it to bits…..
I love these bowls! My mum has a couple in different colours and I’m very envious.
I can see my dip or olives in it right now. Beautiful!
How beautiful! Celia, I think your Christmas giveaway is just the most lovely thing! If I had a blog I’d want to do this but I’m too busy reading other blogs to have my own… he he
that makes me smile.
Seeing it in your hand makes the smile wider.
I’d like to enter- but if you have trouble sending it- take my name out of the running. :)
You’re all so wonderful – I’m delighted that everyone is enjoying this as much as I am! They’re only little things, but thank you for being enthusiastic with me! xxx
Like Heidiannie, I would love to win that little bowl. Its gorgeous! But I’m affraid that it would arrive in pieces through the mail if I did win it. :( Good luck to everyone else.
After your original post on these I headed down to Orange Grove on a 2nd Saturday to find them myself. They are so lovely, I restrained myself with 1 large, 2 medium and 2 small. I wanted to buy them all as the colours and patterns are so vibrant and beautiful!
Good on you, Deb! Restraint is hard, the designs and colours are almost hypnotic! :)
What a cutie! It’s lovely to find a quality handmade item like this. My sister moved to Turkey 5 years ago, and I really wonder if I’ll ever see her again. She has no intention of coming back, and it’s just so far to travel. Maybe one day…
Oh Celia, this is so pretty. I’m a total sucker for Turkish ceramics, although my very favourites are always the ones in blue.
Your bowl was made for taking your earrings and items of jewellery off.
The following day, you go to your bowl looking for your favourite bracelet, or earrings and there they are.
Always.
Never lost. Never where they shouldn’t be.
Just reassuringly in the “jewellery-off bowl”, where you always leave it.
You want to keep your giveaway now, don’t you Celia.
C’mon Grilly, what are the odds that I only bought one bowl? ;-)
That is GORGEOUS! so perfect for so many little things-I can imagine that sitting next to the bed for earrings too :)
What a treasure! Aren’t little bowls just perfect, I love them for all sorts of things. It’s beautiful Celia.
You are so generous Celia. There’s a spirit to your “web presence,” well – blog – and it’s great to be able to turn to – so thankyou!

ah-HA! You’re a wise woman.
i gaze every morning the turkish coast (12 km away fm my hellenic island)! i have admired many times on turkish markets amazingly beautiful ceramic artifacts, and i have managed to acquire an astonishing handmade tea light candle, and two lovely ashtrays with lid. turkish ceramic artifacts are indeed a feast for the eye!
thank you celia for sharing with us this artistic giveaway!
I love the colors… beautiful work
Goodness Celia, you are in the Christmas mood. Have no idea if you are including us mortals from overseas in your giveaways, but am entering just in case. I still remember these Turkish bowls from when you first blogged about them and I so love the bright colours.
Artists in our area make bowls, local chefs make soup and the rest of us go and buy them with the profits going to the local food bank. Best tasting fund raiser ever!!!
Thanks for putting this up, Celia. I went to find Metin in Crows Nest, thankfully finding him open on a Sunday. Found gifts for the most difficult person I had to buy for (seriously, even food is no good!!) Found it so hard to leave everything else there. Wonderful ceramics!! I have told all my friends about it.
MamaVix, that’s wonderful! I was in today as well, picking up a couple more. Isn’t it fabulous to be able to find something different and unusual, and support such a nice young couple in the process?
