Luca’s Boots

December 3, 2011 by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

My friend Luca has the most beautiful pair of cowboy boots.

They’re Tony Lamas, imported from the US, with magnificently embroidered turquoise uppers…

Luca has always worn them with great panache and aplomb, but now that he’s twelve, he can’t squeeze his feet into them anymore. So yesterday, I got a phone call…

“Celia, sadly the time has come when I can no longer fit into my cowboy boots.  Would you like them?”

Would I like them?  He brought them over (I only live around the corner), I pulled them on, donned my matching turquoise dress which is both too flimsy for this weather and too short for my age, then strutted around the corner with a plate of his favourite friands to say thank you…

Bring on summer, I have new kickers!  Thanks Luca, you’ve made my week!

Luca thinks his boots look mighty fine up there! The friands were magnificent – helping us get through Christmas concert season like nothing else could!
The gang around the corner xxx

Please thank him again for me, Nic! I love them so much I’ve been wearing them around the house! :) xxx

Drop-dead gorgeous! My daughter would kill for these.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:25 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Amanda, I remember you saying that she loved cowboy boots! I think these boots originally came from Sheplers online – http://www.sheplers.com. It’s a great site to go window shopping on! :)

  3. on December 3, 2011 at 4:38 pm Lizzy (Good Things)

    Beautiful! Love the philosophy too!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:28 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      He’s a lovely young man, Lizzy! :)

  4. on December 3, 2011 at 5:03 pm Suelle

Cool! And Luca will still see them around for years, as you won’t grow out of them!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:30 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I hope that’s the case, Suelle! Thankfully my feet are the last thing to get fat.. ;-)

  5. on December 3, 2011 at 5:43 pm kitchenbutterfly

I have a friend who would befriend you for these. She’ll even go to Texas to get you a replacement! They look gorgeous but I would need courage to don them with a short dress – for many reasons :-).

And I love friands too. Have a great weekend.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:31 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Thanks Oz! They’re really gorgeous! I think I need to bake more friands today – Pete saw Luca’s and asked if he could have one, and I told him no.. ;-)

  6. on December 3, 2011 at 5:44 pm Peter Bryenton

Those boots are made for walkin’ …

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:31 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      That’s what I’m gonna do… ;-)

  7. on December 3, 2011 at 5:51 pm tania@mykitchenstories

Do you hum a little Bee Gee number as you strut your funky stuff Mama Cool? What a fantabulous gift !

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:32 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Oh yes… “Oh you can tell by the way I use my walk…”

      :)

  9. on December 3, 2011 at 7:11 pm Misk Cooks

Now that’s what I call Boots with a big attitude. And better yet, someone else broken ‘um in for you.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:33 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Misk, you are absolutely right. They’ve been softened up perfectly for me!

  10. on December 3, 2011 at 9:17 pm Tes

This is so cute! I have always wanted cowboy boots… the black or brown one :)

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:35 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Tes, I have black and brown ones, but these are the first really brightly coloured pair I’ve had. You should get a pair, they’re great fun to wear!

Sigh…I have a bit of a collection, as you probably know.. ;-)

Ooh, how lovely, and how lovely of a 12 year old to be so thoughtful to gift them to a friend who appreciates them! :)

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:36 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

It was very sweet of him, wasn’t it? I was very touched.. :)

  13. on December 4, 2011 at 12:52 am ceciliag

He gave you MY boots, but he promised I could have them!! and that particular shade of blue is so good with my eyes! Poo.. Well I suppose as my Stand In (get it) you would be my first choice! c

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:36 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I shall think of you when I wear them, C… ;-)

  14. on December 4, 2011 at 1:54 am sallybr

Wonderful, but where is the most important photo of all? You in your turquoise dress, wearing the boots? Pleeeease?

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:38 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Sally darling, not a chance. There are so many lovely people who are kind enough to read my blog, I don’t want to scare them all away! ;-)

  15. on December 4, 2011 at 2:41 am Just A Smidgen

You were GIFTED Tony Lamas… and they were TURQUOISE.. you have no idea how lucky you are.. or maybe you do;)

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:41 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Smidge, you’re right, they were a GIFT and they’re TURQUOISE and Luca was kind enough to think of me, which is the very best part of the whole thing! Lucky? I’m blessed. :)

      • on December 4, 2011 at 3:05 pm Just A Smidgen

You’re right.. blessed is a better word for it!

  16. on December 4, 2011 at 3:19 am Norma

I had a pair of red ones many years ago… All you need is to go to a dance hall and do a two step.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:42 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Norma, red cowboy boots! They must have been magnificent!

  17. on December 4, 2011 at 3:40 am Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

Those definitely look like they were made in the good ol’ USA!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:43 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Greg, cowboy boots from anywhere else just don’t make the grade! :)

  18. on December 4, 2011 at 4:51 am Abby

    Love ’em!!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:43 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      Thanks Abby! Me too! :)

  19. on December 4, 2011 at 4:59 am C

They’re gorgeous. I’m not surprised they’ve made your week. You know some very generous and sensible people Celia!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:45 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

C, we really are very blessed with wonderful friends!

  20. on December 4, 2011 at 8:25 am Christine

Those boots are made for walking…and that’s just what they’ll do!

They will, won’t they? Walk, that is. I want to take comfort in knowing that they will be out on the street in all of their magnificent embroidered glory – they’re too special to be tucked away in a dark wardrobe! Nice one, Celia, you have a gem of a friend in young Luca.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 1:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Chris, they’re really comfortable too – much more so than some of the other ones I have!

  21. on December 4, 2011 at 8:26 am Rose

Those are the coolest most turquoise cowboy boots I have ever seen. I am turquoise with envy.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 1:10 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      They’re pretty cool, aren’t they? ;-)

  22. on December 4, 2011 at 8:26 am Rose

And just so you could see how turquoise I am with envy a turquoise avatar came up. :)

  23. on December 4, 2011 at 8:57 am Anna Johnston

Oh I can just picture you in your new boots. What a treat. Love the friands. Hope your having a wonderful weekend. :)

    • on December 4, 2011 at 1:10 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Anna, I reckon they would have been just the thing to wear to meet the Queen! :)

  24. on December 4, 2011 at 9:16 am emily @ wellcookedlife.com

As you might guess from my shop, I have a weakness for blue, turquoise especially. Great boots!

    • on December 4, 2011 at 1:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Thanks Em! I’ve been wearing them today with Sarah’s silver ring – they’re a perfect match.

  25. on December 4, 2011 at 4:14 pm Manuela

Those cowboy boots are pretty cool! Very thoughtful of Luca.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 5:48 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Thanks Manuela! It was very thoughtful of him, wasn’t it! :)

  26. on December 4, 2011 at 6:52 pm cityhippyfarmgirl

Looking fine Celia, looking fine! If cowboy boots can be made any better, it’s to make them turquoise.

    • on December 4, 2011 at 6:56 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Brydie, you’re so right! They’re such a bright colour and the heels aren’t too high, which makes them absolutely perfect! :)

  27. on December 4, 2011 at 8:02 pm Mrs Bok

    They are fantastic!!!!

I misread your last sentence. I read I have new knickers.

    HEEHEE!! :)

    • on December 6, 2011 at 6:14 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      Oh, I have those too… ;-)

  28. on December 4, 2011 at 9:02 pm InTolerantChef

So funky Celia, you lucky thing, and what a generous Luca! Perfect example of re-duce, re-use, re-cycle. You get to save the world and make a fashion statement at the same time :)

    • on December 6, 2011 at 6:14 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

It was very generous of him, wasn’t it, Becca?

  29. on December 5, 2011 at 4:34 am Marilyn

Love, love, love! So very snazzy! Or as we might say in the States, “Bitchin’!”

    Maz.

    • on December 6, 2011 at 6:15 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

      Thanks Maz! ;-)

  31. on December 6, 2011 at 1:03 am niasunset

This is so beautiful dear Celia, how nice he brought them to you. I love these boots too… The colours are amazing. But your cakes too. Luca and you are both so nice, Thank you, Blessing and Happiness, with my love, nia

    • on December 6, 2011 at 6:16 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Thanks Nia! The boots really are an amazing colour!

  32. on December 6, 2011 at 8:51 am Roz MacAllan

Firstly excuse to buy something in turquoise – don’t buy clothing buy a big set of turquoise beads then you can wear the boots with anything dark brown or black, by the way orange looks wonderful with turquoise, if you dare!
