My friend Joanna referred to these as a chocolate treasure chest, and she’s right! I was so pleased with how they turned out that I wanted to share the photos with you.
When I was last at Harkola, I found a new ma’moul mould…
I ladled tempered Amedei Chuao into the mould…and ended up with these sharp, crisp designs that remind me of gold coins and jewels. They’re miniature versions of the chocolate wheels I made a couple of months ago. Treasure indeed!
Hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend!
Beautiful!!
Thanks darling! x
I love your mould with all its different shapes.
Elaine, it’s been so much fun to play with! I made milk feuilletine chocolates in them as well! x
how beautiful, Celia, I must get my skates on and learn chocolate tempering.
Maureen, once you’ve learnt to temper chocolate, you’ll never have to buy a birthday present again.. :)
I learnt a new term today!
Was it ma’moul, Tandy? Have a look at Glenda’s…

oh I know Harkola well, very well! There’s another one in Greenacre, I don’t know the name off the top of my head, but its great and quite similar in prices and products.
I could so do with a chocolate hit right now, they look great
Lisa, isn’t it a fabulous place? I adore it, AND the people who run it! :)
Wow Celia they DO look good. So simple and so effective. Now for the ma’mouls!! Did the lady in the shop tell you what type of ma’mouls the mould was for?
Glenda, I can’t offer you any further info, other than the fact that the moulds come from Syria, and they can’t get any more stock! :)
I really need to pay Harkola a visit Celia! It’s been a long time! Especially with the Ma’moul moulds, so versatile & easy unlike the old ones my aunty has, which are made of timber and quite heavy.
Lina, they have the wooden ones there, and some similar to this one, but with deeper cavities. It’s definitely worth a trip out there! :)
You are a clever thing Celia – they look perfect. I was chatting with a chocolatier friend of mine today in his shop, who was complaining about his difficult task-master – he had been trying to temper a batch and it took him 4 hours. That’s more patience than I possess these days, but I guess when it is his livelihood he doesn’t get much choice.
Amanda, thank you – the problem with chocolate is that most of the time it does what you expect it to, but occasionally it can be temperamental. I suspect my husband might say the same thing about me. :D
They’re stunning Celia! I’m going to have to start calling you Willy Wonka! I like the one with the criss-cross. You could break off a teeny tiny bit at a time and savour it.
Claire, thank you! After reading your comment, I made sure I ate that particular choccie just like that! ;-)
She was right! They’re so pretty.
Thanks Nick! I’m pretty chuffed with them!
Gorgeous!
Jeannette, thank you! :)
I love getting a preview of your posts on Twitter Celia! pieces of eight! she squawked, I would love to be able to make those, wonderful work
Joanna, I’m so glad you called them that, because now every time I sneak one out of the box, I think I’m grabbing one of those chocolate coins we used to have as kids.. :)
Oh you are so good. Not only are they amazingly tempered but they are CHUAO!!!
I’ve made a rod for my back, Tania. Or maybe you’ve made one for me. I think I’m getting hooked on the Chuao! xx
Chocolate art!
Coins of intricate design.
“If only I had one to eat RIGHT NOW”
she said drooling a tiny bit.
Oh, how I wish I could share with you!! xx
You should open up a shop…these are gorgeous Celia…
Norma, you’re very kind, but I’d eat far too much chocolate if I had a shop.. ;-)
Willy Wonka wishes! Those look delightful! Hugs from Maz.
Thank you darling! I knew you’d appreciate the design aspect of them! Apparently the designs are traditional Middle Eastern motifs (or so I’m told).
Oh Celia, your chocolate always looks so crisp and shiny and wonderful. These do look rather spectacular though and Joanna’s description is a good one.
Choc, thank you! They were great fun to make!
Gorgeous! They do look like the jewels of a treasure chest. I love how shiny they are. I wish I could taste one ;)
I wish I could share one with you! xx
What a batch of perfectly tempered chocolate. Yes, they reminds me of those gold coins! I love this mold, which is nice to have all different and unique shapes. ;) so pretty
Amy, thanks for stopping by! And yes, I like that all the shapes are different too – makes such a nice change from blocks and squares! :)
I really must back read on this tempering business, they are gorgeous Celia.
Rose, thank you! I’m really very pleased with them! :)
My weekend would be more fabulous if I could make things like these. I like the cross hatch snowflake.
Jo, I ate the snowflake nibbling off the little arms one at a time, just as Claire above suggested! Wish I could share more than a photo with you!
You have such patience Celia
Sally, that’s kind of you to say so – my husband would argue the point with you though.. ;-)
Like me I suspect – endless patience with some things, zero for others !
Wow! A treasure indeed! They look beautiful, crisp, and soo shiny.
Manuela, it doesn’t always work, but when it does, and the chocolate is so shiny, it just makes me happy. They’re like polished coins! :)
Amazing Celia!
Thanks Kari! :)
Well done, Celia. These are beautiful!
You’re very kind, thanks John! :)
What lovely design patterns! The home-made tempered chocolates came out nicely & special too! :) Yummo!
Sophie, thank you! The designs are really lovely – I’m trying to figure out what else I can do with the moulds!
So gorgeous Celia. They all emerge from the moulds like a complete work of art. Definitely too pretty to eat but I’m sure I could find an excuse xx
Charlie, thank you! They’re almost all gone already! I wish my boys had your reticence, but they don’t see it as art, just as chocolate! :D
beautiful Celia!
Thank you! :)
How beautiful!!! I would love to make some pretty little chocolates like that :)
Thank you, they were great fun to make! :)
Beautiful Celia! Just beautiful xox
Thanks love! xx
Hi Celia,
I love your site and the way you cook. I love these chocolate, they look so beautiful to be eaten. I live in the USA and would appreciate if you can tell me where to buy these maamoul plastic molds. Specially the one pictured above.
Thank you for your help,
Imane
Imane, thank you for visiting. I’m very sorry though, I have no idea where to buy the moulds in the US – I’ve only ever seen them at the one store here. They’re made in Syria, and over here they’re sold at the Lebanese wholesaler, if that helps.
