Christmas Cheer

December 19, 2013 by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I enjoyed this so much that I thought I’d share it with you. Grab a cup of tea and pop your feet up for ten minutes. An entire series was made, each based on a real-life experience from the lead actor’s childhood…

. . . . .

Thanks so much for sharing that. Loved it.

Lona, I’m so glad you enjoyed it – I laughed and laughed! :)

My heart swelled with pride watching this. My eldest granddaughter (aged 6) has just finished Prep and although she generally does not wet her pants her shyness can be crippling at times. I went to the Junior school Christmas concert last week and was just so proud to see her confidently take her place in the middle of the front row and sing her heart out. It was such a contrast from the end of year preschool event last year where she had to be coaxed to even come onto the stage.

Thank you so much for posting.

Fairy, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And hooray for your granddaughter, she’s a star! :)

Love this! I especially loved the two old ladies and their descriptions of people (“… the one with the face”.)
Thanks so much for sharing, Celia- both of my grandsons were in programs for Christmas- and I didn’t get to see either one- but next yer they will be only two hours away and I’m going to go and see them!!!

Hehehe…”you know, the one with the ankles…” ;-) I’m so glad you’ve all enjoyed it as much as I did.. xx

Oh I loved that so much – it made me cry! Where did you find it?

    • on December 19, 2013 at 9:05 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Jan, they’re currently screening the series on ABC1 – there’s an episode tonight at 6.45. Otherwise, check out YouTube. I tried to buy the series, but it’s not out on DVD yet…

That was awesome. Sister Mary Bernadette is hardly Mother Theresa.

    • on December 19, 2013 at 9:03 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I loved.. “Mummy, I’m the King of Glam Rock!” :D

PS. Apparently Mother Theresa was a tough old bird as well.. :)

I never went to Catholic school but we had Sister Christina who was one scary person who used to smack the kids with her hymnal. I remember her yelling at the boys “You’re in the house of the Lord – act properly or I’ll bash your heads into the pews”. Frankly I wasn’t going to tell Sister Christina that she too was in “the House of the Lord”.

        • on December 19, 2013 at 9:45 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

LOL!! Not Catholic? I guess we Protestants have our fair share of scary nuns as well.. :)

Oh I’ve been enjoying these too Celia- aren’t they just great! That girls mum is awesome, imagine if she hadn’t fought for her child, would she be where she is in entertainment today?
Those older ladies are a scream too, I know someone just like that :)
Hope you have a very merry- and glittery, Christmas! X

    • on December 19, 2013 at 9:49 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Becca, the two old ladies are such a hoot! Hope you’re having a wonderful December! xx

LOL so funny, Celia! I needed a giggle.

    • on December 19, 2013 at 12:08 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Goodo, I’m glad it gave you one, darling.. xx

Loved it! I think we can all remember the angst of the parts being handed out for the Christmas Nativity Play – The crying over missing out on being Mary – that part always alluded me. Was usually some bug in the stable xx

    • on December 19, 2013 at 12:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

It was so very long ago, eh Charlie? I can still remember the boys’ preschool plays though, and the time when Small Man (Joseph) tried to flip the baby Jesus out of the crib… :)

    Love it!

    • on December 19, 2013 at 12:09 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

  10. on December 19, 2013 at 7:27 pm My Kitchen Stories

Was very very cute. I cant remember any nativity plays.

    • on December 20, 2013 at 6:51 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

I can’t remember mine, but I do remember the boys’ ones.. :)

  11. on December 19, 2013 at 9:56 pm Pat Machin

As an ex Convent school girl, I can relate!

BTW, if you see a girl dancing, naked, on the top of a piano, she was almost certainly educated in a convent. *just sayin*

    • on December 20, 2013 at 6:51 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

LOL! Pat, that’s too funny, I’ll bear that in mind.. :) I have to ask though – do you speak from personal experience? ;-)

  12. on December 20, 2013 at 1:31 am Glenda

That was fab Celia. It is amazing what a little encouragement can do.

    • on December 20, 2013 at 6:50 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

And just look where Catherine Tate ended up! :)

  13. on December 20, 2013 at 3:14 am Chica Andaluza

That was brilliant – loved the way she came out of her shell. And oh, how many memories of my own school which was pretty much like that and in the same era. I now want to watch the other episodes!

    • on December 20, 2013 at 6:50 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Chica, so do I! This is the first one I’ve watched. I think many of them are on YouTube…

  14. on December 20, 2013 at 5:08 am Carol Fieldhouse

Priceless! Reminds me of the wonderful scene in “Love Actually” where Emma Thompson welcomes the news that her daughter is playing the octopus in the Nativity…!

    • on December 20, 2013 at 6:50 am Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Isn’t Emma Thompson just the best actress ever? She’s fantastic.. :)

  15. on December 20, 2013 at 10:13 am ladyredspecs

Thanks Celia, that was wonderful! Happy Christmas

    • on December 20, 2013 at 8:38 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

So glad you enjoyed it. All the best to you and Leah for a wonderful Christmas – hope it’s not too hot up there! :)

  16. on December 20, 2013 at 12:59 pm Nic

Catherine Tate rules! And the gorgeous girl who played her as a wee (!) lassy.
    Priceless.

    • on December 20, 2013 at 8:37 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Aren’t the old chooks hysterically funny too! :)

  17. on December 20, 2013 at 5:44 pm ChgoJohn

“We can all get lost in a good book.” Now, that’s a Mother’s love.
Loved it, Celia. How cute was that little girl? I’ve already sent it to a couple friends. Thank you so much!

    • on December 20, 2013 at 8:37 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

John, it was a great series, all little stories from the main actor’s past, recreated in a short film format. As you probably know, Catherine Tate has gone on to great things – not the least of which is being companion to Doctor Who! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and I have a post going up in a few hours which I hope you’ll enjoy! :D

  18. on December 20, 2013 at 8:29 pm tableofcolors

Merry Christmas to you! Sometimes all you need is that someone believes in you!

    • on December 20, 2013 at 8:35 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

Laila, Merry Christmas to you and your family as well! You’re so right! :)

  19. on December 26, 2013 at 8:00 am marilynscottwaters

I enjoyed that 110 percent. And Catherine Tate is one of my favorite companions. Thanks for sharing. Maz.

    • on January 2, 2014 at 6:03 pm Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

She’s just the best, isn’t she, Maz! Hope you’re having a happy new year, darling xx
