This month’s IN MY KITCHEN is now closed!
Please join us again in March! ♥
. . . . .
As I mentioned last month, lovely IMK blogger Kim from A Little Lunch lost her Oklahoma home to fire in November 2014. A fundraiser website has now been set up by Kim’s daughter to help them get back on their feet.
Poor Kim had a brutal year – she lost her sister, than had a stroke, then her house burnt down. Please give whatever you can – every bit helps! And after you’ve donated, please spread the word via one of the sharing links on the website (or on your blog).

In my kitchen…
…are these stunning flowers – a gift from my dear friend Selma in London via Little Flowers. The old-fashioned pink roses were gently fragrant…
…but the tuberoses were magnificently perfumed…
Selma’s sourdough starter Twinkle has become so much a part of the family that she’s now included on gift cards…
In my kitchen…
…are slow braised beef shortribs. They had four hours in the oven, resulting in incredibly tender meat that fell off the bones. After an incredibly hectic December, it was a treat to be able to cook a meal as slowly as possible…
The meat and cooking liquor became the basis of a comforting lasagne…
I thought for a while that I’d trashed my Römertopf in the process (I’d tried using the top and bottom elements instead of the back fan ones)…
…but the glazed base cleaned up well in the dishwasher. The top didn’t survive quite as well, but it’s still perfectly functional…
In my kitchen…
…is 36 month aged Reggiano Parmigiano – an unbelievable Costco find at just $30/kilo…
In my kitchen…
…is a new Portuguese clay pot. I don’t need another clay pot, but I had a moment of weakness…
…especially when I realised that $28 was for the whole pot, and not just the lid…
In my kitchen…
…is a fabulous gift from my friend Amanda of Lambs’ Ears and Honey. She read in Kavey’s post about my frustrations with our box grater and surprised me with these super-sharp Microplanes…
I was every bit as excited about the intricately cut card which came with the gift…
In my kitchen…
…is a ludicrous number of figs. As I mentioned in an earlier post, branches of Mark’s tree now hang over our side of the fence, and we’ve been picking with glee…
We’ve been eating figs with feta on our crunchy sourdough bread rusks…
…as well as in Jamie Oliver’s Sexiest Salad in the World…
In my kitchen…
…is the last of our trombie/butternut plant – it’s amazing to think that the squash start out tiny, stay green and zucchini-like for ages, then turn into a pumpkin…
In my kitchen…
…there is always bread. These fruit loaves were inspired by my friends Annie and Selma…
As always, I added too much fruit to the dough, including the leftover candied orange segments from our Christmas chocolates…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…is a Wagyu beef, pancetta and anchovy pizza. Known in our house as a #vegetarianfail, it was heavy on the anchovies and wickedly good…
. . . . .
In my kitchen…
…was a 55 year old bottle of Portuguese port. With the 35C days we had last week, this one started to leak and needed to be drunk. It was decanted and left to breathe for eight hours, then shared between four neighbours, Big Boy and me. It was sublime…

Wonderful as usual… hard for me to pick favorites this months, but your figs made me swoon and dream a little….
Sally, I wish you were here – there are more figs than we can eat! :)
Oh I thought you had drunk the whole bottle of port Celia. Shame cause you could have joined the Pirate club. What a wonderful gift from Amanda and knowing you you will cherish that card just as much as the microplanes. great find with the parmo. yum. That is one sexy salad indeed.
Darling, I reckon I’ve more than qualified for the Pirate club in my day. Although I’ve never got so hammered that I needed to sit on the tarmac of an airport to sober up. Unlike some. ;-)
Celia, you have a bonanza for us this month. I am so glad you were weak and bought that Portuguese clay pot. I think they cost more in Portugal than that. I just wonder where you are going to store it :). I am so jealous of your figs, they look divine. I have just put in two new trees to see how they go. The last one was a failure. Have you considered drying them? I have a recipe if you would like. Have a great month. Here is my contribution for this month.
http://passionfruitgarden.com/2015/01/31/in-my-kitchen-february-2015/
Glenda, “store” is probably the wrong word. “Hide” is probably more correct. :) I haven’t dried the figs, but we have this terrible problem with those annoying small flying things whenever we try to dry fruit, so I’m always a bit wary. Good luck with your trees!
Your photo of the figs have me waiting for our summer here in California where it’s mid-winter. Now my fig trees are leafless and looking so forlorn. Though I’m missing fresh figs terribly I refuse to buy imported fresh ones, as with basil I eat the fruit only when in season. Every year when enjoying the first basil of spring it’s as bringing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (spring) into my life…. Thank you for your post.
You know, I think we’re spoilt now. We don’t like eating figs more than a day after they’re picked. And you never get them that fresh at the shops! :)
You have such a wonderful variety in your kitchen. The flowers are gorgeous. The pot looks similar to one my mom had for many years.
Manuela, the pot is absolutely lovely – I’m still trying to think of what to cook first in it!
Celia:
Finally someone that loves anchovies as much as I do! And on Pizza!
We love anchovies in this home, and use any chance to use them. This pizza sounds wonderful.
Have a Joyful Day :~D
Charlie
Charlie, Small Man and I ADORE them, Pete likes them, and Big Boy tolerates them. These are the ones I buy, I think they’re the nicest I’ve ever tried!
What a gorgeous array of goodies, Celia! Wish I might sample a bit of everything as I sit admiring your beautiful bouquet of flowers……
Debby, the flowers had the most amazing perfume, the whole house smelled amazing for several days! :)
[…] thanks to Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hostessing In My Kitchen each month — a delightful global gathering — and for her […]
What an amazing kitchen you have Ms Celia…there is always SO much going on in it! The best I did was remember to make some sweet tea for my kombucha, cook Stevie-boy a decadent meat pie using pate brisee that contains almost as much butter and lard as flour and a very innocent looking little “chocolate slice” that Stevie-boy found online and wanted as his cake this year that had 600g of chocolate and a LOT of brandy in the cream. I also made chai spiced coconut rice pudding last night that was amazing. Problem is I used a mish-mash of 2 recipes to make it and can’t remember exactly what I did…the perils of being a mad scientist cook coupled with a middle aged brain! ;). I love the look of those tuberoses…I think I am going to have to source me some to plant out. :)
Fran, I hope you can grow them, they’re amazing! And lucky Stevie, sounds like he eats very well indeed! :)
:)
Celia, first of all THANK YOU for sharing our fundraiser and ‘story’… my heart is full. I can’t help but think that all good things start in the kitchen, and your IMK post is certainly evidence of that! I didn’t know whether to comment on your posies, Portuguese clay pot, Parmigiano Regiano, Port, or pizza… (and please pardon my alliteration, ha!) — although after acquiring a taste for anchovies recently, I’m going back to take a second look at that pizza! Color, flavor, food, friendship, and LOVE abound In Your Kitchen. Many thanks! xo
(P.S. My post is up & running — ahead of February here!)
Thanks darling! We adore anchovies – I think life would be less interesting without them! :)
Celia, I love finding out things later in life. Deeply appreciated.. much more surprising. (Especially when it comes to flavor!)
I’m so jealous of the figs.
Don’t be jealous.. :)
Yes, the figs got me too. Meanwhile the grasshoppers are devouring the leaves on my baby fig trees I’m trying to grow. I know what you mean about enjoying slow cooking things, after the hectic holidays. Thanks Celia.
Ardys, the lasagne took all day to cook – it was a simple dish and most of the time just looked after itself, but it was so nice to just chill out and put it together without any rush! :)
That port!!! I love the look and sound of that pizza! We are yet to make pizza in our new oven. I’m so jealous of your figs! We have a beautiful Greek neighbour, with a garden so full of produce that he handed us a huge handful of pears the other day! Yum!
That port is nearly twice as old as you are! What are you going to do with your pears? :)
Hey Celia, I can only echo the sentiments of all the other ladies! I love your kitchen :)) And what a great idea from In My Kitchen. Can’t wait to read more xx
Thanks Roni! :)
Lots of lovely things in your kitchen Celia. I love my micoplane graters and think you will like them too. I am so liking your Portuguese vessel as well. And fresh figs, I didn’t have any last year, this year i will ensure that I do so.
Hi Celia,
Here is the link to my IMK post.
http://allotment2kitchen.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/february-2015-in-my-kitchen.html
Shaheen, the Portuguese pot is just so lovely, I’m very happy to have it. Not sure what to cook in it yet, it needs to go in the oven rather than on the stove.
It just gets better and better seeing what you offer. Figs, port, flowers and other goodies. That salad is great isn’t it? Lasagne is one dish that should never be allowed to be sold in the supermarket, the process to create a good one is just too demanding to create quick, cheap version. Life just throws a bucketful of crap at some people doesn’t it? Will check that site to help out.
Thanks Maree! Even small donations will help – I’m hoping the IMK community will rally and support them. And you’re so right about lasagne! :)
Kim certainly had more than her share of troubles in 2014. I do hope she and her husband are able to move into a new permanent home very soon. I love the card Amanda sent you. I don’t think your fruit bread is too heavy on the fruit at all. How fortunate to have a fig tree hanging over your side of the fence. And I do love the look of your vegetarian-fail dinner xx
Charlie, if my boys had their way, every dinner here would be a vegetarian fail! :) I’m pretty sure yours are the same! xx
Those beautiful pink roses caught me eye, Celia, and then the figs. Oooooooooh, how I miss my neighbour’s fig trees! They used to let them rot, so another dear friend neighbour and I used to climb the fence and pick to our heart’s content. Sssssh, don’t tell anyone, please! Loving all the other goodies in your kitchen. How kind of Amanda to send you those microplanes and that precious card. And what a great shout out for Kim xox
Thanks Lizzy! I’m hoping the IMK community can make a difference. Even if everyone donates $10, it will help them out enormously!
Absolutely!
Lovely collection again, thanks Celia. My fig tree is groaning with fruit – I’m just waiting for them to ripen.
Amanda, that’s the problem with figs isn’t it? They cost a fortune most of the year, then they ripen and you can’t give them away fast enough!
Now I am hungry! Love the figs but am peagreen with envy about that parmesan! And really must make JO’s ‘sexy’ salad: looks like I would really like it!!!! Oh, and the shortribs look both lean and yummy :) !
Eha, the Jamie salad is so delish – we’ve made it four times already this fig season! :)
There is seriously a lot going on in your kitchen. Hope to post a month in my kitchen for you to look at next week. Thanks for the inspiration!
Look forward to seeing it! Please upload by the 10th, that’s our cut-off!
It’s a great fig season here in north Tas too and my plan for the late green ones is to candy them (like a concentrated fig jam) and use them instead of raisins in sourdough fruit bread when the cold weather comes.
That’s a great idea! I love dried figs in bread!
Shut up about those figs will you? I’m so jealous as they are such a fave and don’t grow here. Consequently 4 figs at the markets cost upwards of $6 so just keep quiet will you? On other matters, I have the same parmesan in a huge wedge that I keep in my freezer. I have only ever bought 4 things from Costco (it’s a bit of a hike) and this was one of them. It was indeed a bargain. Finally, the Port. How wonderful to have a bottle from 1960! All gone now I know but how fortunate that you could still drink it and it was not musty. Cheers Celia and thanks for hosting.
Hahaha…sorry hon, I’ll shut up now. And the port wasn’t musty, it was amazing. I still have one bottle left under the house.. :)
You can never put too much fruit in bread–according to my husband and chief taster. I’m waiting for my figs, so are the crows, bower birds and any other flying critter around.Port, pizza, Parmesan and lasagna–I’d love to be in your kitchen.
We only have to compete with the fruit bats, although the rainbow lorikeets found the figs the other day. The trees aren’t netted this year, so there’s a lot of yelling and hand waving around dusk.. :)
fruit bread never has enough fruit for me. I think I would take a piece of your fruit bread with feta and figs on it. I love the designs on your clay pot – that would make me weak at the knees. Glad those pots cleaned up nicely. And what a chore for you to have to drink the 55 year old port :-) I love port but haven’t had any for ages – though I would have happily helped out.
Have done my IMK post at http://gggiraffe.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/in-my-kitchen-february-2015.html
Johanna, I’m so glad you said that, because often clay pieces make me go weak at the knees too! :)
I love tuberoses. I wonder if I can grow them at Casa Debbio.
I hope so Deb! They’re stunning!
I had tuberoses at our wedding and I LOVE them. The scent is intoxicating for me. I know about Kim’s plight. What a shocker of a year she’s had and she’s such a wonderful blogger and friend.
Thanks for helping her out, M. I know all the love and support mean a great deal to Kim!
Oh those figs!!! What a great post, Celia. I am happy to report that Princess Sandy Sourdough the second has bubbled into life, and the bread is proving as I write….fingers crossed for the baking!! Thank you for your wonderful patience and generosity. My boys loved the sourdough pancakes yesterday too! :-)
Jaqi that’s GREAT news! Hooray! :)
Just took the loaves out of the oven….success!! I’ve sent you a pic :-) thank you again!!
I totally agree, you can never have too much fruit in fruit loaf. Your loaves look great. The outside looks to have a nice toothy crunch. Great find on the cheese from Costco. It is amazing what one can discover there at times. Celia, I do admire your clay pot. So vibrant. I say surround yourself with beautiful things that make your heart sing.
My IMK post for this month; http://makeitbakeitsnapit.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/in-my-kitchen-february-2015.html
Thanks for hosting Celia, I so look forward to IMK each month, Kirsty xx
Kirsty, the pot really did make me happy – just to look at! I’ll find a use for it soon though! :)
Another month full of the beautiful, tasty and useful. I bet that 55yr old port slid down the hatch like silk!
Sandra, it was just so fine – I was so relieved and delighted at the same time!
Figs, fruit bread, pizza (love the name) port ( in that lovely, fat decanter) such pretty petals, pumpkin, parmesan Portugese pot (of the clay variety) and that seriously, sexy salad – such plentiful pleasure :)
Jan, the lovely fat decanted was a 21st birthday gift from friends that I’m still in touch with! Lovely memories! :)
Celia, you truly have the most wonderful IMK posts. Everything is always so wonderful and I think I have mentioned before I would be the size of a house if I had to live with you because there is always so much to eat and I am not very good at saying no. :-)
Have a wonderful week ahead.
:-) Mandy xo
Mandy, no you wouldn’t! You’d take me jogging, and we’d all eat as much as we could.. :)
I love your flowers from Selma, Jake AND Twinkle :) love the pop up card, love the figs, love the loaves, love so much!!! Every month I read Selmas IMK and think that I really should join in – this month I’m finally going to!!! xx
Elaine, so nice to have you joining in! Isn’t Selma just the cutest? :)
She is!!! x
The port started to leak and needed to be drunk! Yeah, yeah.
Very envious of your figs – we moved our fig tree and it went into a massive sulk but fingers crossed we may get a few this year and now it’s in a better position maybe in years to come we’ll get some bumper crops. My MIL picks figs from her bedroom window (cue lots of eye rolling and exclamations of disgust from her sons at the thought of her doing it in her nightdress).
The port started to leave and need to be drunk and it was a Wednesday night, so that was as good a reason as any to open it! :) I think that’s fabulous that your MIL picks figs from her window – the ones up high are a bugger to reach otherwise! :)
I didn’t realise that bottles of alcohol leak in the heat ?I’ll have to remember that in the simmer :) That salad of Jamie’s is just timeless isn’t it – I remember him making that years ago on TV – 20 years ago? Surely not.
Nancy, only bottles with corks. :) Please don’t tell me it was that long ago, but you’re probably right!
Oh, your kitchen looks good! I’m glad you bought the new pot – what a great find at that price and it is beautifully decorated. The new graters and card are lovely too, and I think it’s brilliant that Twinkle gets mentioned on your cards :)
I’ve just done my February IMK post – http://www.bitesizedthoughts.com/2015/02/in-my-kitchen-february-2015-give-away.html
Kari, the pot was such a bargain, I STILL think they might have priced it incorrectly, but I did check! :)
And I especially love those cut paper cards – I have a little 3D cut paper Christmas tree which I love.
Isn’t it beautiful? The workmanship is amazing!
Celia, what a wonderful selection you have. I so wish we had a fig tree overhanging our garden! And that Portuguese pot…stunning. Here is my contribution to February:
http://www.milktoastandhoney.co.uk/in-my-kitchen-february-2015/
Thank you for hosting, these are one of my favourite posts of the month! Ania x
Thanks Ania, lovely to have you joining in! :)
Ah, you had me laughing so many times… great post Celia! Aren’t microplanes the best? I have one like yours and a zester, which I couldn’t live without. Now, do grind/grate your Pecorino or keep it whole in the fridge? Great score by the way.
Our carton of milk leaked the other day and destroyed the fridge. I prefer your leak better ;)
Ha! Most of the time I pre-grate my cheese in the food processor and stash it in the freezer like my friend Em taught me, but I do keep Parm whole in the fridge and grate as needed. Having said that, I also buy grated parmesan from the cheese shop – sometimes it’s just easier. :) I’m so sorry to hear the milk destroyed your fridge!!!
[…] happening in your kitchen this month? As always, thanks to Celia at Fig Jam and cordials for hosting the IMK posts. Swing by to say hi and check out other kitchens around the world. In […]
You’re such a thoughtful person to help with Kim’s horrible situation. I’m so glad that no one was hurt but to lose all those memories and things that just aren’t replaceable is tragic. Thanks for the site to help them.
Oh, I love flowers anytime but this time of year here, it’s especially wonderful to see fresh flowers.
Oh – oh I can’t imagine what would have happened if you really had trashed your Romertopf but got to love how that thing cleans up.
As it turns out I’ve got dough rising in the oven now for pizza. Today is our Super Bowl (no I’m not a huge fan of football but my husband is & our Boston team is playing so I’m trying to make something that can be eaten at halftime).
Love port! Can’t have any leaking though so of course you’d have to drink it.
Wonderful post as always Celia, and my IMK post is all set to go.
Di, we hear so much about Super Bowl Sunday! I hope your team won? You can tell I’m not very up to date on these things.. :)
Really ? You guys actually hear about it? It’s the biggest sporting event of the year & yes, our beloved Patriots did win although it was a nail biter at the end. They had the big parade in downtown Boston today for the team & boy, I give the fans a lot of credit for coming out in the cold like that. But, it’s not often that it happens so I guess it’s a rare experience for some. My daughter works in Boston though & the city’s been spending all their time & equipment clearing the parade area so a lot of people were unhappy to not have their roads plowed. It’s over now, so hopefully people can move around again. I’m having a hard time imagining what Boston traffic would be like if the city actually wins the summer Olympics!
Wow Kim really didn’t have a good year the poor thing. I hope 2015 is a much better one for them.
Celia I think you really would have been wasting money to leave that pot in the shop, it had to come home.
The slow cooked meat looks mouth-watering but what I really want now is some lasagne (doing mental freezer/fridge/pantry inventory check to see if I could make it tonight). Ollie would love the fruit toast. I have tried 3 times to make it for him now and have failed every time trying to substitute some of the bakers flour with other flours. 4th time’s a charm?
More of Kevin Junior is off this week and one package all the way to Florida! So very exciting!
Claire, your Ollie eats the best food ever with all your lovely cooking! And he looks like the happiest little man – such a joy to watch him growing up! :)
Hi Celia. My mouth always waters when I read your IMK posts. I just made some fruit and nut sourdough (blog post coming soon). Yours looks divine. As does your now pot. That is a stunner.
I love tuberoses. One of my favourites. Fab post as always Celia.
Here’s my IMK post. Happy cooking… and eating.
http://milk-and.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/in-my-kitchen-february-2015.html
Thanks Jennifer! Fruit and nut sourdough is one of my favourites – the ones in this post were nut free because I was sharing with baby M! :)
Ah, I thought, Celia’s been to Petersham again – nice pot. I’m yet to get there.
Last year I revolutionized my life and bought a Microplane, and the G.O. will testify that I am Precious about how it is cleaned… it’s so amazing. They are great for grating Reggiano Parmigiano!
Over Christmas we were given a gramma of similar size to your trombie/butternut that I now have to cook, but believe me, I won’t be doing it alone, the G.O. will be doing his share of chopping & peeling seeing as he will eat most of it.
I must make that sexy salad :)
Sigh..yes, she has. She spends a bit too much time and money in Petersham! :) I stick the microplanes in the dishwasher – I’d love to be fussier, but I’m a klutz and I cut myself whenever I try to handwash them!
Here I am! fruit loaves have to be my favourite! how yumm
http://www.loveateverybite.com/lifestyle/in-my-kitchen/kitchen-february-2015/
Thank Giulia!
Now that’s my idea of a vegetarian meal Celia- love it! I’d also like a slug of that port to go with some of the luscious figs and cheese please :) So many great goodies as always- yummo! xox
Becca, the port was just so nice – hard not to open a bottle more often, but they are a bit precious! :)
Forgot to say my IMK is up and running too please Celia xox
oh wow Celia! i don’t know where to begin with your mouth watering post. that pizza, that port, those figs, the parmigiano, those gorgeous flowers. anyway you get the gist. I love it all!
here is my post; sadly not as wonderful as yours!

Sherry, your posts are always wonderful! :)
Hi, Celia. I really adore the IMK post from bloggers around the world. I am Jhuls (a Filipino blogger) and I’d love to join IMK. :D
This post is really wonderful and that pot, it’s so gorgeous. <3
Hi Jhuls, please do! We haven’t peeked into a Filipino kitchen before! :) Please post by the 10th of the month, and remember to link back here so your readers can check out the other IMK posts as well. Do let us know if and when you get a post up! Thanks!
Haha! I don’t think there’s a huge difference, Celia. I am glad to participate and I will keep that in mind – I will prepare my post before the 10th and let you know. Thank you so much, Celia. xx
Hi Celia, I don’t have a blog but read yours all the time. I have just started dabbling with chocolate making and refer to your hints all the time, haven’t got it down pat just yet!! Just wondering if you would recommend the Sicao brand of chocolates? I normally use Callebaut but noticed that the Sicao is so much cheaper?? I use Callebaut primarily for baking and lately, in a bit of chocolate making. Your blog is inspiring, I don’t know how you keep up with all the cooking, baking, chocolate making and gardening! I am nearly tempted to try sourdough bread making; maybe a new year project?? Keep up the great work!
Lily, thank you for reading! The Sicao is cheaper and made by Callebaut, but I didn’t have much luck with the milk chocolate in that brand (had trouble getting it to temper properly). I think Lizzy over at Bizzy Lizzy Cooks uses it and is very happy with it though! I’m sure they’d be fine for cooking/baking!
Hi Celia. I’ve recently come across your blog and would like to join in with In My Kitchen. I have a post ready to publish on Wednesday, but I don’t think it follows traditional In My Kitchen list formatting. Is that okay?
Jenny, of course! Any format is fine, but we do ask that posts are uploaded by the 10th of the month, and that you link back to Fig Jam and Lime Cordial in your post. Look forward to reading your post! :)

What a lovely collection!
I’m going to have to dust off my Römertopf, it never occured to me to put it in the dishwasher. Have you ever used it for bread baking?
Here is a link to my post…it’s a slow month:

Thanks Liz! As I mentioned, my Romy is glazed, which makes it much easier to clean in the dishwasher. Not sure how the unglazed versions would go – I know the unglazed lid on mine is clean but a bit blackened from use.
I laughed out loud about the pot and realising it was $28 for the WHOLE POT not just the lid! I have had those moments when the price WAS just for the lid!!! Like my scan pan roaster :) And the glee with which you pick your neighbours figs….you live a life I can only dream of! Thanks for sharing Celia. I adore coming here to read what’s going on in your life, makes me smile and always puts me in a good mood even though I am writing this with an enormous pile of washing waiting for me after two failed experiments in the kitchen (plus attempts to salvage the failures = extra mess). My kitchen looks like I’ve just cooked a banquet for 20. But nothing has been produced from this kitchen today. NOTHING!!
Oh dear! Never mind love, there’s always tomorrow.. xxx
It all looks wonderful Celia. The tuberoses are just beautiful.
Jo, they had the most amazing perfume!
Adore that clay pot Celia! And I have total fig envy!! :)
Here’s my post for this month, thanks again for all the work you must put in for this excellent series for us food obsessed!!!

Cheers,

Jan, Fiona above has already told me to shut up about the figs, so I will! :)
[…] In My Kitchen series is hosted by the ever generous and lovely Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial. I’m linking up with the world wide food blogging community who post an update each month […]
Ceila the fresh figs looks amazing and so does your beautiful salad. There always seems to be a wonderful feast going on in your kitchen, homely breads, lasagnas and an almost vegetarian pizza. You will enjoy your new super sharp microplane graters. :)
Thanks Moya! It really is so nice to have such sharp graters! We had a microplane one, but it was a ribbon one and hard to use for cheese, so these were the perfect gift!
My kingdom for those figs Celia! They look like they’re quite heavy and bursting too which is just how I like them :)
The green ones in particular have been spectacular!
There is always so much happening in your kitchen Celia! Glad you were able to retrieve your extra caramelized romy. Your Portugese glazed terracotta ware is gorgeous and what a fantastic price, i’d have bought 2, or 3, or 4! Here’s my post for Feb http://pleasepasstherecipe.com/2015/02/03/in-my-february-kitchen-2015/
Thanks!!!
If you ever come to Sydney Sandra, I am SO taking you shopping.. :)
Even though I just had lunch I’m starving again! The pizza and bread with fruit have me drooling! I don’t think I could resist that clay pot either, it is quite beautiful. Just got my post up, here’s the link: http://feedingmy3sons.com/2015/02/03/in-my-kitchen-february-2015/
Thanks for always hosting I look forward to all the IMK posts every month!
Gretchen, thank you! :)
I am quite envious of all those figs: ours look like little green bullets thaks to a dry season. Some wonderful tempting drinks too- cheers, F
The port was superb, so happy it opened in such great condition, as it can be a bit touch and go sometimes with these really old ones!
So many wonderful things In Your Kitchen – I wish I could pop to Spain and mail you a load of terracotta pots! Poor Kim, I must have missed that, what a tough year for her. So glad that port didn’t go to waste ;)
PS. Fig Jam? I used to make it every year in Spain….so good with many things but especially Foie Gras if that floats your boat! Otherwise have them for breakfast… http://chicaandaluza.com/2011/06/23/figs-for-breakfast/
I can’t tell you how much Pete laughed when I told him you’d suggested figs and foie gras for breakfast! That’s up there with the lard and pimenton on toast! Love it! :)
I like to push the boundaries!
Microplane graters are fantastic but be careful! I chopped a serious chunk of my finger off using a coarse one once. A trip to emergency and two months of bandages later and my finger is mostly normal again! I highly recommend the finger guard things you can buy for the coarse ones!
I’m so sorry to hear that! I try to be careful, I’ve grated the tops of my fingers off before as well!
Celia, that is so sweet of you to spread the word for Kim. I hope she can get back on her feet again very soon. Lots of deliciousness in your kitchen again, but it is the beef short ribs that really caught my eye. My IMK offering is here
https://annelawson.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/in-my-kitchen-5/
with another mention of your yummy ricotta slice. Oh my, it is good! :D
Thanks Anne! Look forward to reading your post – flat out at the moment and trying to find time to do the rounds. I will though! :)
Ohh now why don’t I have a leaking port bottle that needs a little attention?? Hmm, probably need to buy port before that can happen. Will tend to that.
That pizza looks wickedly good Celia…might need to tend to something like that too.
B, there’s nothing quite like a meatlovers pizza to keep the tribe happy! :)
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. How awful for her, but so sweet of you to spread the word for her. Those figs and feta cheese look delicious and the Jamie Oliver salad is also very tempting. Stunning roses. You cannot beat receiving fresh flowers as a gift. Take care. Emma xx
Thanks Emma! The JO salad is definitely worth trying if you ever have fresh figs! :)
[…] in with Ms Celia today and lots of other amazing kitchen […]
Oh My goodness Celia, you are so busy, but so much yumminess is happening in your kitchen. I love the “meatlovers” pizza that we make in our house because it is always just any meat that is left over from the week!
I’m Glad that Kim has amazing friends like you and the blogging community to help her back on her feet, it is so wonderful!
Thanks as always for sharing!

My IMK for this month :)

I love flowers in a kitchen, I think they just brighten up a room beautifully. Speaking of beautifully I’m more than a little impressed how beautifully those pots came up with a clean… well worth the investment for sure!
I’m a fig fiend – just try keeping me away from them in fig season. How wonderful to have a fresh source so nearby.
Your bread as always looks amazing!
Celia, to me a kitchen is the centre of a home. It’s where life happens and where I have some of my most serious and most lighthearted discussions. I’m so honoured you host this community each month and I love the virtual village that you’ve nurtured. Kim is in good hands here.

PS: I wish I had a leaking port bottle to tend… I’d manage it somehow :)
Good afternoon Celia…so lovely to see you here again! I think I could happily sample everything in your kitchen! A slice of lasagne and a glass of port would be a treat on this Friday afternoon. With some Reggiano Parmigiano of course! The pizza and bread look amazingly good.
I love the clay pot…can a girl ever have too many?
Thank you for hosting our kitchens so generously. My post is linked. Have a great weekend x
Finally managed to get it together! https://napolirestaurantalert.wordpress.com/2015/02/06/in-my-kitchen-february-2015/
Love the fresh flowers and the figs! We have a calendar in our kitchen with a similar fish to the photo you posted. Another small world coincidence! Here’s my February post. Thanks, always, for hosting this fun forum.

Celia, you have newly inspired me to get creative with my sourdough starter – more than an occasional plain loaf and the usual weekend waffles. Photo in March, but for this month I’m just sharing things in and around my galley.

I love the #vegetarianfail pizza Celia, it sounds fabulous! I also love all your clay pots – and the bargains!. I’m actually typing this while the smell of slow cooking lamb in my Aldi $20 enamelled cast iron pot fills the air…
My belated post is up – http://insearchofgoldenpudding.com/2015/02/09/in-my-kitchen-february-2015/

The trombies are weird aren’t they? We had one that turned pumpkin like. It sat in the pantry for 12 months (I’m not a huge pumpkin fan) and we cut it in half to feed to the chickens. It was just like a pumpkin inside. Haven’t yet experienced that this year.
I do love my Microplanes. They are really good for small jobs and even better cause they go in the dishwasher. Lucky you!
I finally got my IMK post up: http://thecookspyjamas.com/kitchen-february-2015/

Thank you dear Celia – thanks to you there is a LOT of bread IMK this month :) http://mycustardpie.com/2015/02/09/something-bubbling-in-my-kitchen/

I am so glad you liked the flowers and so happy that they were scented too! Your fruited bread looks just delicious as does that short rib lasagne! I am dreaming of your port and figs and can I just say how much we love anchovies too?! They are fabulous with lamb and I quite often cook them off when I want a deep umami flavour to a tomato sauce. I am saddened to hear of Kim and Russ’s plight and have put the word out on my IMK piece. As per usual, here I am skidding to the dead line with my post – https://selmastable.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/in-my-kitchen-february-2014/

Celia, I lovelovelove my Microplane graters. The extra coarse is the one I use most frequently. I always wash them by hand, with rubber gloves on.
