As you might recall, I started walking in the second half of last year.
My goal is to get at least 8,000 steps a day – as I mentioned in an earlier post, the recommended number is 10,000, but I’ve given myself 1,000 steps off for every five years over forty.
I’m happy to report that since the 14th August, I haven’t missed a single day! There were a few occasions when my count was a bit short, but overall I’m very happy with the results. To date, I’ve walked 905km and taken over 1.5 million steps. I track them using the Stepz app on my iPhone…

Happily, Big Boy still comes with me most weekday mornings, but I’ve also discovered that I love walking on my own. We’ve now expanded our route from the Inner West Greenway to include the eastern side of the Iron Cove Bay Run. The latter is much more crowded, but the water views are stunning. Let me share a few photos with you…
These colourful dinghies are all locked in place and numbered…
There is a lovely shady area called Giovanazzo Grove, where I found ten minutes to sit and meditate recently…
When I opened my eyes, the rowers were gliding through the water…

One cloudy morning, we discovered a secret beach…
…and watched a white-faced heron being buffeted by the wind…

Trying to beat the heat on a 40°C day, Big Boy and I headed out before dawn and were rewarded with this beautiful sunrise…

Sometimes, we just sit on the headland and reflect on how incredibly fortunate we are to have all this beauty, for free, so close to home…

The Bicycle Tree artwork sits near Blackmore Oval…
As we walked past it, I noticed this rainbow lorikeet who was so busy feeding that he completely ignored my camera…
The birds on the Greenway and Bay Run have been a joy to watch. This month, the cormorants have taken up residence, and we’ve seen Little Black, Pied and Little Pied (photo below) species…
Warwick the pelican attracted a lot of attention when he paddled along the canal recently. I love his reflection in the still waters…

Finally, I couldn’t resist a photo of this perfectly formed web, glistening in the morning sun…
Wishing you all happy days! ♥
Good for you girl….I’m walking most days but I admit I have missed a few when things get hectic in the catering world (or when I am away from home :)) Planning on walking El Camino De Santiago later this year so must push towards all those steps…xx
Isn’t that just wonderful? I walk several miles every morning with the dogs, no idea re steps but if I don’t walk I feel loggy all day. I am impressed with the walk by foodthatsingscatering and the El Camino De Santiago. First saw it in Hamburg, Germany. Good for you!!
Congratulations. I love the idea of steps off for every 5 years over 40. I won’t apply it to me, I won’t have much left. I’ve been trying to do 7000 steps a day since early November and have only missed a couple of days.
Keep it up, I’m sure it’s rewarding.
Hey sister – SNAP – I talked about footsteps this morning on my blog too! We are twinnies! Though – my views are nothing like yours – you really ARE incredibly lucky – hot out there isn’t it! Mercy. c
What bliss, thank you for sharing. You are so lucky having the opportunity to experience such beauty every morning, which I am sure never leaves you searching for things to put into your Gratitude Diary, if you keep one.
What a beautiful way to embrace each morning! I’ve recently converted to outdoor exercise in the morning and it’s made my starts each day that much more pleasant and energizing.

Congratulations, you are going a great job. I try to walk almost everyday myself. It makes me feel good.
You should send the rainbow lorikeet photo to ‘National Geographic’ – beautiful catch with warmth and humour!
Well done you. I’d love to be able to walk more, but the roads around our property are all 80kph, with no paths and almost no verge to walk on in parts. I love living in the hills, but safe city footpaths do hold a certain attraction …
I love walking too. I take our dog for a walk everyday and walk often on the beach after dropping my son off for school. The last few days, I’ve been able to finish my walk with a swim in the ocean. Bliss! I love your photo of the rainbow lorikeet…aren’t they so beautiful. We’ve had King Parrots here of late, feasting on the olives that are fruiting along our neighbour’s fenceline. I haven’t been able to get a clear photo of one … yet! Meg:)
Brilliant, well done you!!! 😀😀😀 I LOVE my morning walks with Bob through our beautiful countryside, it’s so cathartic, quite aside from being so good for your whole body x
I have loved seeing your pictures. There are so many things you don’t see unless you walk around.
Are those your free socks that you’re wearing? Fabulous views – you’re very lucky and I’m very envious. Happy Walking.
“What a wonderful world” – Celia – “oh yeahhh”:)
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! How amazing to be doing so well with your walking Celia. That is incredible. It’s amazing how much walking / jogging improves my sense of well being and I too enjoy going on my own.
You have the most amazing views! Mine, are a little boring by comparison.
Have a super day.
:-) Mandy xo
No wonder you enjoy your morning walks so much, with such beautiful scenery along the way! I enjoy walking a couple of miles each morning with my friends and it is amazing the positive impact walking has on my day.
Celia, I want you to know that your words and your photos are so uplifting and also so comforting to me at this time. I am restarting my morning walks with my neighbour (it’s been hard to get out in -25Celsius ) but today I will plough my way through last nights snow (nice and fluffy, so no biggie!) I recognize a lot of the places you walk in. Isn’t it wonderful that Sydney has put those riverside parks in. Sad that at the same time they are removing the trees in other places. Thank you, we owe you big time.
How incredible to think how far you’ve walked when you look at the numbers! I had a pedometer digital thingy as I don’t always carry my phone with me but it died. Need to sort something out. Big Man was in hysterics the first time I mentioned my pedometer to him as in Spanish (or at least, where he’s from) a “pedo” is a “fart” so he wondered what on earth I was trying to keep track of 😀 They’re called “pasometros” in Spanish, just in case anyone wants to avoid making the same mistake as me!

Wow. What a glorious, peaceful place to walk. Thank you for sharing.
Go Celia. Good on you, girl. You live in such a beautiful place, no wonder you love your walks, especially with your son by your side! Peter and I cycle by the duck ponds or go swimming at the pool in the CBD whenever we can. I just love how I feel afterwards, particularly after swimming. I aim for one kilometre in laps and then spend about 30 minutes outside in the dive pool in the sunshine, aqua dumb bells in hand, moving around or just lolling on the water drinking in the Vitamin D. It’s a mini holiday that I just can’t get enough of. xxx
You’ve inspired me. Must do more walking. Do you think a Fitbit might encourage me or is the phone app just as good? Your views along your morning walk are rewards for your persistence. Did I see striped socks too?
Well done on the walking Celia, and gorgeous photos as a result!
Thanks for sharing.
I’m so jealous of your walks. My views are so incredibly boring and summer far too humid and hot, thus the gym workouts.
Good on you Celia! I am also an avid walker so can really relate to this. I walk to work and back everyday and also in my lunchtime and hike at weekends. I would feel I was missing out if I couldn’t get out on my daily walks. They are my meditation! I have just started a poetry blog here on WordPress in case you have time to look? Have a nice afternoon, Sam :)
