Ok, that was a bad pun, but crossword puzzles really do make me happy!
Over the years, we’ve bought several of books of puzzles but this series is our all-time favourite. We usually order them from Amazon…
Pete, Small Man and I have been enjoying these so much that I thought I’d be just a little bit naughty and share one of them with you for the weekend. If you’d like to have a go, I’ve scanned a single puzzle for you to print out and work on.
Here are the links in pdf format:
And I don’t know about you, but I usually need to look up at least a couple of answers in every puzzle. If you need to do the same, here’s a photo of the solutions.
Hope you have as much fun with this as we always do! Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing weekend! ♥
Oh I relate to this….I and my best friend have been meeting every Sunday morning to work the New York Times Crossword puzzle together for over 30 years. We have the best time, drinking coffee and having toasted bread with marmalade. The only times we have missed is when one of us is out-of-town. Puzzles are good for us I think. Great post.
You are special, I cannot do/deal with puzzles of any kind. Different brain )
These ones are (mostly) surprisingly doable! And then there’s the answers.. ;-)
Oh, brilliant. Peter has a widowed cousin who’s in his 80s, very gregarious but, now, of course isolated,. He lives in a small town with limited facilities. We ring him every night and chat, just to check in and talk about what we’ll do when the world turns the right way up. He loves cross word puzzles and i never thought about ordering them on line – but, now i know!! Thank you so much. I’m off up the garden to turn the compost heap and see how the garden has grown overnight 😀
I had a dubious squizz at the clues, thinking it’d be the usual stupendously cryptic puzzle, but I actually got a few of the answers! Holy cow, who knew? I’ve done a sudoku and a jigsaw puzzle every day for the past 7 years to keep the chemo-brain at bay, and it works well, but I assumed my crossword days were past. Perhaps I should reconsider!
I love crosswords, that was the only reason I used to get the paper. Haven’t seen the times book before, will have a look. Always take a c/w book with me when travelling.
PS Geoff had a go at me once when I needed to refer to the solution for an answer saying in his kindergarten, naughty boy voice that I was a “dirty rotten cheater.” I quietly explained that I would never grow or increase my knowledge if I just left the space empty. No different to waiting until tomorrow’s newspaper arrived to see what the answer was. 😂
I see no reason to cause myself unnecessary frustration 😂
Thanks Celia. The Management and I share the puzzles page daily but he always grabs the crossword! We share Sudoku (alternate days), and I get the codeword. I’m only allowed the crossword clues he doesn’t know. I may print two of these and see who does best 😁
One person’s doable is another’s really puzzled, wish my brain was good at crosswords
Oh, how lovely! My mother in law and I meet every week on WhatsApp to do the Radio Times crossword together so I can identify with this. It really does brighten up lockdown.
My husband and I have started doing The NY Times puzzle together each morning, as a collaboration over tea. It’s a wonderful new tradition and lots of fun. My Dad was a huge fan and my Mom always gifted crossword books to him every Christmas.
My colleagues and I work on the Sydney Morning Herald puzzles together. We would start with the quick crossword together in the morning then move on to the cryptic. People would then move on to other puzzles as per their interest during the day. I miss that so much working from home.
I do enjoy a good puzzle.. have started doing the New Yorkers’ online, since iso, but so many ‘Americanisms’.. I prefer the Super Sudukos ..
thanks for this Celia :) Do you do the cryptic ones too? I’ve never been able to work those out!
Celia, this is so great, thank you! Already printed it off (I promise not to peek at the answers) and am prepared to tease my brain later on this rainy, stormy day. It’ll be fun to have a bit more of a challenge. I’ve been doing crossword puzzles from books procured at our local Dollar Store ever since “stay-at-home” orders began, but I have to meter them out judiciously. (Two puzzles per day, usually completed in 20 minutes!) Meanwhile, Russ labors over his Sudoku books. :) Puzzling is good for the soul! Be safe and well, my friend. Loved your pun, too!
