The daily ebb and flow of life often requires us to make lots of decisions.
That can be tough on us adults, but even harder on teenagers. So on Sunday morning, I told Small Man that there was only one decision he needed to make that day.
Did he want his doughnuts filled with Nutella, blood plum jam, or plain?
He decided that he’d like them plain, and then proceeded to eat six of them. The Nutella ones weren’t wasted though – Lil and Luca around the corner made short work of them…
When life gets complicated, I’d recommend making doughnuts (the recipe is here). Then, as Small Man did, you can make a carefully considered decision on how you’d like to eat them!
These look absolutely phenomenal! Check out my raspberry ones on my blog if your passing!
Ryan, I had a look but couldn’t find them? Raspberry doughnuts sound amazing.. :)
Apologies I must have just left it in draft form there is a Victoria sandwich recipe featuring raspberries just on!
Cool, I’ll have a look! Thanks! :)
Those look so tempting. I would no doubt eat many, many, many… Well, you get the idea.
Hahaha…my three men eat them hand over fist as well.. :)
He did not choose Nutella! Well, I am a bit shocked and appalled. Not sure I can recover from this virtual hit. Why, oh, why would he walk away from Nutella?
that question shall haunt me for years.
Far be it for me to question the one decision he was making that day.. hahaha
Life is so complicated. I would like one day not to make a decision.
Yep. You and me both, love x
I would love for that to be my only decision for the day! I would definitely go for the Nutella filled donuts!
See, I’d pick the jam ones myself.. :)
very cool!!.. lovely Mama.. c
Thanks darling xx
YUM :) Happy Day Indeed!
Homemade doughnuts make every day better! Have a great weekend, Renee!
Decisions, decisions, I’ll take one of each…that was easy. :D
We all love an easy decision! :)
Hehe what a pleasure to only have to make one decision and that it is donut related! :P
Yep! Nothing life changing or difficult, just..pick a doughnut.. :)
You’re a considerate mama and sometimes just choosing which donut you want is all the decision making you want to make in one day. :)
I think sometimes it’s nice to have permission to NOT make any decisions on a day. Does that make sense? :)
Sometimes a decision like that is the toughest thing! These look so good.
Then that’s easy Clare, you can have one of each! :)
I think I would have to have gone for a mix – they all sound so good!
Plenty to go around Kim, you’d be welcome to all three! :)
It is a fair way to come but The Management is threatening a trip ‘Down Under’ for the next cricket tour so take care – I might just try and come for a sample! (You are probably safe – Australia is a big place)
Those look amazing! So sweet that you made donuts for him, sounds like a great treat. :) That nutella ooze is making me hungry though :D
The doughnuts were a byproduct in a way – I was making faux brioche and had extra dough. It’s really easy if you want to give it a go – here’s the basic dough recipe and it can be used for a multitude of bready things…

Plain wasn’t an option that occurred to me. Donuts are my treat when we go the The Grounds of Alexandria on weekends… 1 nutella and 1 jam…mmmmm.
Easy decision! :)
Happy Birthday to me and the first present of the day is that glorious photo of a doughnut with Nutella innards. I’ll happily share doughnuts with Small Man if he’s going to leave the Nutella ones.
Happy birthday, Jo!! Have a fabulous day! xxx
i’m with your son..plain for me..although jam would be good too..by the way they look amazing celia..
Jane, we have so much surplus jam in the house, that I’m always looking for ways to use it up. Piping it into doughnuts can make a dent on the stores! :)
and Lil and Luca’s parents managed to also steal one! They were fabulous. Great size too.
They’re not churros yet, but I’m working on it! :)
They look fantastic and not hard to make, I am so going to try these!
Hooray! Hope you like them, Liz! :)
Wow Celia…these look amazing! The boys in your house are well looked after x
Jane, you’d find these a doddle to make, if you haven’t already done so. Whenever I shape lots of small balls of dough, I think of you and that massive batch of tiny rolls you did ages ago.. :)
Well Celia, I think you’re quite cruel actually. Just one decision- but what a tough decision! It would have taken me all day to choose as I would have dithered and swung between such deliciousness. I think I might even need a lie-down after such mental strain in the morning xox
Hahaha…no problems, sweet, you can just have one, two or more of each! :)
Or you could NOT make doughnuts and just get a spoon and eat the nutella from the jar…just sayin’ ;)
I’m amazed how many commenters are saying that.. :)
A sad indictment of how hard it is to make doughnuts and how easy it is to eat nutella with a spoon and how lazy we all are ;)
Those are the sorts of decisions that makes life good :) What a lovely way to simplify things, and what a great set of choices he had!
Kari, making easy decisions is empowering, I reckon. It’s like something you can check off a mental “to-do” list.. :)
Wow, I think I just found my special Friday night dessert! I’ve also just posted an In My Kitchen post for June – thanks again for hosting!
Danielle, hope you enjoy them! A full batch does make quite a lot of doughnuts – be warned – we usually have to call in eaters! :)
Today, I want to be faced with these decisions as well!
May all your decisions today be straightforward and simple! xx
I am sending this post to my goddaughter. Enough said.
Thanks Norma, hope she enjoys it! x
Yum, and I’m supposed to be on a diet. It’s a good thing that photos aren’t fattening. I like making doughnuts with holes–two doughnuts for the price of one. My grandpa used to be able to smell doughnuts from a mile away. He would arrive about the time the third load was out of the fryer.
Liz, that’s too funny – having a sixth sense for doughnuts is straight out of Peanuts and Garfield comics! :)
What a very wise post Celia. Thank you.
Thanks Madge! xx
Have never made doughnuts – time to put that right!
Tanya, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love these! They don’t come out of the deep fryer overly oily either!
You have such amazing recipes!I love to follow your blog and learn how to make different types of jams! :)
And it would be wonderful you to upload different types of doughnuts and crackers and bread recipes :) I am looking forward to many such “decisions” :)
Thanks for stopping by! :)
Small Man and I have something in common…I’ll do the same exact thing. Smell the freshly baked doughnuts, break it with my fingers, and voila! Savor the goodness of the filling and the dough!

Gourmet Getaways
Julie, these are really very easy to make, and my boys eat them hand over fist! I reckon your kids would love them! :)
I will have to try them for sure :-)
I’m not even a huge fan of doughnuts but my goodness they look delicous! We don’t usually buy Nutella at home as I have no control and eat it by the spoonful. Hubby recently bought a jar and was horrified to see how much of it I had eaten…as I started to read your post I thought it was a very serious question you were going to ask :)
Stefanie, it WAS a serious question! The only decision of the day, but it just wasn’t a difficult one at all, and there was no wrong answer! :)
Oooooh Celia naughty naughty. Now why did you go posting this? Huuuuuge cravings happening here, ive resorted to nutella straight out of the jar because I’m just too tired to actually make something right now lol
Hahaha…you’re allowed to do that when you’re very pregnant, Lisa! :)
Im agreeing with Lisa the gourmet wog……this is not a post I should be reading at half past ten at night- total doughnut and nutella cravings!!! Must make these….lucky boys to have these ‘whipped’ up….yum Celia xxx
Thanks Kylie! I do love making them, but try to keep it to just an infrequent treat, or they all make themselves sick on them! :)
Brian likes plain ones too, don’t put stuff in the middle he said, they don’t need it :)
He’d be more than welcome here then, as Pete and Small Man agree with him completely!
Such very difficult choices in your household Celia!
Hahaha…we try to keep things simple, Chris! :)
Small Man is very blessed to have a mother like you! There’s always something wonderful coming from your kitchen. I have never made doughnuts, let alone doughnuts filled with choices! The image of your doughnut is very tempting xx
Charlie, they’re delicious, but not sure you’d get them past your health conscious older ones! Alfie and Carl though might love them! :)
What a lovely Mum you are Celia. PS Jam please :)
Thanks darling, yes noted, come now, I’ll fill yours for you when you arrive! :)
That is quite possibly the best advice ever for when life gets difficult. In other news I think I need to make doughnuts, I’ll be eating them with both chocolate and jam, because I can :)
JJ, easy decision, made! I was thinking they’d be REALLY nice filled with custard too.. :)
Wow.. I had a delicious nutella brioche this morning, and then went looking for a way to recreate – these might work perfectly!
Daisy, I use the same dough to make a “faux” brioche, so it might work well for what you’re after!
What a lovely mantra to have – when life gets complicated…make doughnuts. If I were a fairy godmother that would be the kind of spell I should cast – that Small Man’s decisions will always be comforting ones.
Thanks darling Jan, I hope his decisions will always be comforting ones too.. xx
oohhhhh beam me up and give me some! Those doughnuts look too good to be in the picture only: they should be on my plate! I will attempt the recipe, but doubt they’ll come out as divine-looking as yours!
Fran, the recipe works really well and is fun to make – yours will be brilliant! :)
I made these tasty beauties & my friends & I all loved them so much! They are so tasty & just wonderful too! xxx
Yaaay! Thanks for trying them Sophie! x
😊😊
Hi Celia, thinking of doughnuts to take for special morning tea at work. How do you reckon they’d last if made night before. I’m tending to think just before serving would be preferable. They look amazing!
Maree, they’re really best on the day they’re made, if possible. Have fun with them! :)
these look wickedly good Celia!
Thanks Brydie! :)
You had me at Nutella. These look awesome!
Thank you! :)
These look really appetizing!! <3 Nutella is my love.
