Little gifts of homemade chocolates are the perfect way to say “thank you”.
Our lives are filled with wonderful people – it’s nice to be able to let them know that we appreciate them. In all those situations where a bought gift might seem weird, a small selection of handcrafted chocolates is often just right. It’s affordable, consumable and doesn’t impose any obligation on the giftee to reciprocate!

If you’d like to make your own chocolate treats, you might be interested in our tempering tutorial. It’s a great skill to have up your sleeve!
Thanks Celia. Francesca’s brother Mick here. I may do this one day when I retire. Definitely not enough time now. I love your blog.
Mick, thanks for stopping by! Has lovely Francesca got you baking sourdough bread yet? :)
How lovely, and how very true.
Thanks Misky! I know you understand! :)
Celia, are the top ones simply tempered chocolate with freckles? Are the liners available at supermarkets or only specialty stores. Thanks,
Rose, I bought mine off the clearance pallet at Southern Cross Supplies, but I’m sure I’ve seen something similar at the supermarkets. Little patty pan liners (if you can still find them) also work really well! And yes, just tempered milk chocolate with 100s and 1000s on them. I make them for the little kids mostly.. :)
Great post, Celia. It’s good to be reminded that we need to count our blessings and be more thankful. I remember that on Christmas Eve my father used to put out a case of beer for the garbos. One year they threw it into the truck by mistake and then spent the next hour revving the truck and screeching the brakes and honking the horn and throwing things around trying to find and retrieve it. Being kept up all night made him reconsider the next year’s gift xx
Charlie, that’s too funny! Your poor dad, but how very kind of him!
Lovely lovely lovely and so true. Thank you for the inspiration. After exams are over I must take your tempering tutorial! Xx
Jaqi, good luck with the exams! :)
Your chocolates are good enough to sit in the window of a choclatiers in Paris. Absolutely stunning! Emma xx
Emma, that’s very kind of you, thank you! Not really that good, but they photos came up well.. :)
Woman, you’re a genius! AND very sweet xx
Thanks Melissa! I do like playing with chocolate! :)
You are not only thoughtful but kind, generous and practical.
Norma, thank you for the lovely compliment! xx
They are lovely little gifts Celia.
Thanks Glenda – they’re the perfect size to not weird anyone out, if you know what I mean! :D
I do, it is a fine line.
Beautiful thoughts, my mate, Cee. :-) And such lovely little packages. It’s good to be grateful. Hugs, Maz.
Maz, we’re blessed with daily encounters with lovely folks, it’s nice to be able to give something back! :)
So true! Your treats look delicous. You wrap them so prettily.
Manuela, all with recycled ribbon too! :D
Oh how I wish we lived closer so that I could spoil you!! You are such a kind person who makes exceeding good treats (and food) too!!
PS – is it weird (stalker-ish even) that I am pleased that I know who The Viking is?
No, it’s absolutely delightful! :) I so wish you lived closer too, we’d have a ball!
What a wonderful idea. We all have people we should be grateful to have in our lives. I am looking forward to making truffles this holiday season, I may have to consider tempered chocolates now too!
Gretchen, I always take chocolates or brownies to parent teacher interviews! I figure the teachers are having a very long day! :)
And thank you for making the sun shine every time I read one of your lovely posts :)
You’re so nice! Thanks Tanya! xx
Chocolate is always the perfect gift! You’re so sweet to make someones day by something so simple as a thank you. Definitely something not heard often enough nowadays xox
Becca, I do so love making chocolate and it’s nice to be able to share them in a small way! :)
I agree completely that its the perfect way to say thank you and it doesn’t add another little knick knack that someone feels they have to display when you visit. You’re a good person Celia and very thoughtful to people who have done nice things for you.
Diane, I honestly feel very blessed – people, even strangers, are always helping me out in one way or another!
Isn’t it wonderful when people seem so cynical and angry these days to find that there really are good, caring people out there. I think it’s all about how we treat each other.
You know Di, I think we so often take people for granted. Yes, I’m paying you to make me a cappuccino, but nothing says you have to do it with a smile, or fuss with the froth to make it extra pretty for me. Or give me a double foam cup so I don’t burn my hand walking to the car. I’m always incredibly grateful when folks make that extra effort. And it always annoys me when I say something like that, and people reply with, “well, they’re just doing their job..”
you’re such a sweet heart celia..no wonder your life is ‘filled with wonderful people’..x
Jane, that’s very kind of you. Really though, I feel very fortunate! :)
Such thoughtful gifts, Celia… you really are a gem xox
Lizzy, they’re just little things, but it’s nice to be able to have something to give that doesn’t seem too nutty (no pun intended).. :)
What a lovely way to say thank you! And beautifully presented, too.
Thanks Deb! They’re really tiny – the little silver board in the photos is only about 10cm square! :)
Lovely and thoughtful ways to thank others, great posts!
Thank you! :)
With “Thank Yous” as beautiful and tasty as these, I bet you’ve got people lined up outside your door, just waiting to do you a favor, Celia. If I lived closer, you know I’d be at the head of that line. :)
Hahaha…if you lived closer, I’d make a weekly chocolate delivery to your door! :)
By sharing these, you may have people lining up to do you favours so they can be thanked with one of these selections :D They all look beautiful!
(Oh, I just realised the above comment says something similar to mine!)
Thanks Kari! :)
I love how you share the baking and cooking love around Celia. I bet people are lining up to give you excellent service ;).
Thanks Fran – there’s always lots of baking and chocolating to go around! :)
There can never EVER be enough chocolate Celia :)
When making delights such as yours above a kind person will always get that inner inspiration of giving to others! You’re a blessed woman Celia and a blessing to others! x
Lina, thank you, I do always feel very blessed! x
Ah that’s lovely Celia. Small thankyous are really appreciated. It is a wonderful thing to do, although mine may take a different form- I don’t think I can do the chocolate tutorial: it might be like cake dec for me!
Francesca, I find a loaf of sourdough is the perfect way to say to a neighbour, “thank you for mowing my lawn”! :D
hahaha- yes, indeed. That lawn keeps growing. Mr T is at it all the time. I would like to give someone a loaf of soudough for a spot of weeding.
What gorgeous chocolates & beautiful ways of saying thank you Celia! I wish I lived near to you and could do you a favour!
I wish you lived near me too, just so we could have a cup of tea together! :)
Wonderful idea..great recipe ,easy to make,,brilliant..
Thank you!
What a thoughtful idea, but that is you.
Ah lovely lady, thank you xx
You two are the kindest people I know. I want to be more like you. These chocolates are fantastic!
Darling, you’re too kind, thank you xxx
A great tasty idea! Ideal food gifts! xxx Lucky family, friends & neighbors! ;) xxx
Celia, you are so right about small thank yous — simple and sincere is always appreciated. After my surgery earlier this year, I brought a small homemade gift for my surgeon to the post-op appointment, he was so surprised and humbled to receive it. Part of my pre-op shopping was to get a box of chocolates for the nurses who would be caring for me in the hospital — when my husband brought it in for them, you should have seen their faces. Many people serve us and are overlooked because “it’s their job”. While true, when our hearts are thankful, even for the things we might expect, everyone is blessed. Great post. :)
So true! Hand made gifts, and edible gifts are always so thoughtful and perfect for thank yous :-)
