A final update on the stripey socks!
In case you’ve just joined in, here’s the background story on the socks we’ve been collecting from our podiatrist Richard.
Of the last batch we picked up, 40 cleaned and tumble-dried pairs were delivered to various charity organisations for distribution to those in need…
I’ve discovered that the cotton-rich heel-free tubes make perfect heat packs, filled with 500g of whole wheat and stitched across the top. They cost me just 80c each and take five minutes to put together…
Serendipitously, my neighbour popped over that afternoon with a migraine and neck pain. She’d baulked at the $40 wheat packs from the chemist, so I popped one of mine into the microwave, then draped it over her shoulders…
I split the side seam on one sock and turned it into a useful bag…
Stripey sock juggling balls only require two seams and if I cut carefully, I can get all three balls from a single sock…
I filled another sock with flossy salt to form a soothing eye pad (note: apparently you should never heat salt in the microwave). I chilled it in the fridge for an hour or so, then my young friend Grace tested it out for me…
It takes four socks to make a beanie, but then again, I do have a large head…
I’d managed to wear a few socks out at the toes, so I turned them into fingerless gloves for my morning walks. I emailed Richard to tell him that I’d been out in my matching hat, socks and fingerless gloves, and he deadpanned… “You have issues I’m not qualified to work with”…
A couple of photos to finish…Richard the Sock Monkey…
…and Karen the Sock Owl…
It’s been great fun – thanks for coming on this socky journey with me! ♥
Very creative!
Lots of great ideas, you are all geniuses!:-)
‘You have issues I’m not qualified to work with….’ LOL He is just jealous!!
great, great ideas! Thanks, I’m passing this on.
Dang, I read it too quickly………NO MORE SOCKS ??? ARGH
It’s a good thing! No more wastage! :)
You are very inventive and creative Celia! Sorry there will be no more socks :-(
Oh, I’m delighted about that Liz! I was collecting socks from just ONE podiatrist – can you imagine how many were being thrown out across the country? It’s a good thing, but the socks were great fun while they lasted. :)
They say that a clever person can think of ten uses for a hammer besides just hammering nails. You, my friend are obviously a very clever person… a sock genius. Sew on! Maz
i love all of the uses that you have found for your socks. i also think you are easy on the eyes and thank you for sharing pica of you with us! wow! just think of all of the things that you have created from socks that would have just been put in the bin. i love it when people think out of the box…and you, missy, don’t even seem to know that a box exists. kudos to you!
i love your blog!

Hahaha. I agree with Richard. And the socks are just the tip of the iceberg.
You could sew some together to make a draught excluder for the door. Do you have such things in Australia? My grandmother knitted one that looked like a dachshund. You could make a pull along dachshund for a small child. Sorry, the sock madness must be contagious.
Yes, Richard is right. You model that beanie well. You looks so cheeky yet charming in the beanie- it looks almost like a designer hat. Love the heat bead bags- so useful to have a few of those around. I need a whole bed full at night for my achy bits. I will now examine my sock drawer in a new light.
Sock-religious at it’s very best. Charming post.
Oh Celia! I love the creativity! How fun!
This made me smile so much! Thank you. And i love the little owl – you are endlessly creative, Celia.
Somehow I doubt we’ve heard the last of the socks…..you’ll find another source I’m sure. Time for an intervention??!!
The yin and yang of life. How lucky have a few been that you took the trouble to be proactive and find a use for a valuable product. Other side of coin is that they will now miss out. I am sure there must be many more items like these that can be repurposed, will have to check locally. I have a list of quite a few other uses going, I’ll put that in the “just in case” folder.
Love love love this.
You are so creative! So many things can be made out of socks that I never thought of. I might just look at all the “single” socks I have after doing laundry in a new light. Sock heating/freezing packs would be first on my list to sew. You look lovely in your beanie.
Interresanter Beitrag.

You never fail to amaze me with your talents. I loved the photo of you in your beanie. Big love!
Wow! You are JAMMIN! Australian Martha Stewart!!! Everyone was so blessed and loved the socks!
Blessings, Shelley
It’s good to know that there won’t be any more sock wastage but i have loved your inventiveness with these socks. The sock monkey may be my favourite 😃
Love it! Absolutely love all of it and Richard’s response made me laugh 😂
